      Hi

Has anyone driven this / viewed it yet.  If so what did you think?

        Hi Catherine,

I was looking at the Arkana as a possible replacement for my Mother’s X2 but if reviews are anything to go by, it’s probably best avoided. Journalists have complained about the firm ride, disconnected feel from the steering, laggy infotainment, and poor headroom. I personally like the styling, equipment list, and ride height  (200mm of ground clearance).

It’s designed for the russian market. Stepping from the X2 into an Arkana is probably a considerable step down.

I’ve had the C4 before and loved it.  Must admit the ride quality if the arkana would put me off as I have a bad back.  So little choice at the moment.  Considered the berlingo but no heated front seat which is a must for me.

I have driven it, and I would suggest that you arrange a test drive asap, and also read the reviews on You Tube.

The Arkana featured at the 2019 Moscow Motor Show, which was based on an old platform and intended to appeal to different markets from the UK and Europe is not the Arkana sold in the UK , which is very very different, and is built to a much higher standard in a factory in South Korea , and is based on the Clio and Captur.

I found that driving around Basingstoke and area , ie Town/City driving, that it was comfortable and quiet as most of the time it was in 100% electric mode, and then up the M3 to Fleet and back down on A roads to Old Basing, it was as comfortable as my Tiguan, and on the M3 whilst accelerating there was certainly a pleasant
                  Throaty sound.

It’s still on the same platform as a Clio and Captur, and a stepdown in terms of quality compared to the other two (verbatim Autocar).

The reviews are out there, and not many of them flattering. While better than the russian variant, it’s by no means one of the worse choices especially compared to what else is on the scheme and poised to come back to the scheme (T-Roc etc – hell, even an Arona).

You’re right, Rene. Went to see the Arkana and it was a considerable step down from the X2 but nowhere as bad as I first thought. I had a static viewing and found the seats to be comfortable with a nice panoramic view out of the windscreen. Rear cabin space isn’t as spacious as I guessed despite being around 200mm longer than the X2. Legroom was so-so behind my seat position but at least the boot is large and well-shaped. I particularly liked the easy and access and entrance.

I put my Arkana in for its first year service on Thursday 24/11/22. To my astonishment the Dealer informed me that the brake pads would probably need replaced within the next 6 months,as the car has only done 3,800 miles I telephoned Renault they said it’s wear and tear not covered by warranty.

This is my 3rd automatic drive and I have never had to replace the brake pads so it’s now down to excessive braking my last car was 3 years old when I sold it with the original pads since new.

I explained to Renault there brake pads on the Arkana are not the best quality but to no avail.

I looked at the Arkana a few months ago, or rather I wanted to. Visited three dealers over a period of a few weeks and found the service in all of them to be extremely poor. One customer lost.

I would not recommend this car from my bad experience so far hat is on-going….I have had a Renault Arkana since the end of September 2021 and it has not been right from the start. It has been back to cars2 in Barnsley 3 times and still not fixed.  Faulty gearbox, faulty parking sensors and spacial sensors, faulty battery, loosing 30% of its economy and more. Its a disgrace and contacted renault who want me to prove each and every fault since day one despite it going into the garage and records showing this at their end. Renault have put in writing to me that they are aware the gearbox needs a software update so admitted its faulty but still not able to sort it yet and said I have to wait and refusing to accept the car back and give a refund. I would have thought it would be covered by consumer rights but currently seeking legal advise and a shame to have to do this instead of a company be honourable as there is a bigger picture and already told so many people who were thinking of getting one who have now bought other cars.
