Problems with Europcar

My car went in for repairs on Monday and Europcar dropped of a VW Passat estate, which was fine and a suitable replacement for my CLA shooting brake, until I tried to open the boot, It only came up about 2 feet and then wouldn’t move, I thought something was in the boot stopping it from opening but as I put my arm in the boot it slammed down on my arm! Then you had to really learn on it to close it and it wouldn’t open again. So I drove to europcar, showed them and they said they only had one auto I could take, an MG suv, I thought the seats wouldn’t be suitable but I needed a car for the weekend and I couldn’t drive the passat with a broken boot. By the time I drove the 2 miles home it was obvious the car wasn’t suitable so I called the dealer and he said he’d call me on Monday morning with a replacement vehicle. We’ll Monday morning came and went and after 5 20 minutes calls trying to get through to the local europcar I gave up and called Motability who were very helpful and said they’d spoken to europcar and they would get in touch with the local garage and get them to call me. Eventually at 4:30 I received a call telling me they had nothing available for tomorrow and neither did the other local garage, he said he’d check again in the morning but I don’t understand how they don’t know ow what stock they’ll have the next day. I find it strange that if I go onto the europcar website there seem to be lots of suitable vehicle available to hire from tomorrow! Has anyone else had this problem?

            Ring Motability again.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi Kezo I’ll call them again in the morning, but I don’t hold out to much hope as they asked me if I needed the car today and I said I could do without it for today but had to have it sorted for Tuesday morning as I need the car. Motability responded by saying that if it wasn’t sorted they’d provide me with a taxi account, however I don’t fancy doing a 130 mile round trip in a taxi!</p>

Just tell them politely, that you need (rely on) a car as you wouldn’t feel comfortable in taxi on a 130 mile journey nor locally as it would cause you undue anxiety ?

Its also worth asking if they can deal with a different hirecar provider such as Enterprise.

From memory RAC deal with the hire side, so you could ring them but, I’d go through Motability first.

Was your Passat a white one? Are you in Yorkshire?

They gave me one, wonder if they have a stock of big old banger’s just for Motability customers :0

We had a one month old Mercedes CLA from Enterprise when ours was in for repair. Excellent car and Enterprise even paid for a car wash during the period we had it.

I got nowhere with europcar, couldn’t get through to the garage that delivered the original car and they haven’t called me back. I managed to get hold of the garage at the airport but they had nothing available, when I called and they knew it was a Motability customer the girl on the phone had to go and as their Motability expert what was available!! So that was a swift no. I called Motability and direct line said it was down to europcar and the terms and conditions don’t guarantee a suitable car! I’m sure if I was a private customer and they gave me a car that was faulty and assault me they would be falling over themselves to help and a suitable replacement car would have bean found within the day.

It Grey and in the northwest, so a different car but a 21 plate with 60000 miles

I take it you told them a taxi would course you undue/heightened anxiety and they just brushed it under the table!

I think I would ring RAC (I believe they sort hire cars) to see if they can help.

If not, I would be putting a complaint into Motability – expressing you were given a car not fit for purpose, as the boot was faulty, which actually trapped your arm when it closed on you. You have exhausted all channels to request a replacement and have no option but to lodge a complaint. Europcar have also told me, they have nothing to replace it with, Yet if I was a private customer Europcar have cars available the next day, and I question if they are discriminating me for being disabled and on the Motability schem. You don’t feel comfortable with as it would not only heighten my anxiety, the length of my jouneys would be unpractical to have one on a daily basis. You thought by signing up to the scheme would ensure worry free motoring, which at the moment you find quite the opposite. To remedy this, you would like a hire car that is not only safe but, also suitable for my needs. You would also like then to look into the shit unsafe car you have been given by Europcar that was promptly returned……..

Your’ll find a complaint, thats handled by the right department all that is needed to rectify the issue and I’m sure reword much of above into something more meaningful 🙂
