      Hi,

Does anyone know if it’s possible to put personalised plates on your Motability car?

      Thanks

You must ask motability first, and the plate must be in some way related to you, ie your initials or name. I have my initials and they were fine with that.

If you haven’t taken delivery of the car, you can give the dealer your retention certificate and they will register the car under your private plate.

I did that with my Mazda dealer and when I went to pick up my CX5, my private plate was on it.

just remember to factor in the £80 fee when transfering your plate unless its already on retention

What is the relevance to Motability of a private plate being ‘personally related’, and why does it matter?

You’d have to ask them that but i guess it’s to do with being for the claimant’s benefit  and not for a named drivers benefit.

Had no issues with being allowed mein as it has rox in it.. I need to ring MB soon as the dealer couldn’t put it on last month ( i got the plates from them for it though) and we was due to go euro disney in a few weeks but cancelled that now. So would of had to wait for the new v5 and rac to issue the greencard and stuff for travel outside the uk. Mb been great about it all.. just call them when i’m ready as it’s on retention. It will cost you to remove it but not to put it on.
