Having tried, and failed, to do the pre installation Ohme survey for the Enyaq I have on order, I’m now doubting if a car charger is a realistic install at my home.
I went full grumpy on the phone with Ohme explaining that having spent nearly two hours (including recovery time after being on the floor) doing about 60% of the survey that I was done and they would have to send someone out or forget the whole thing. I have no doubt a qualified installer would be able to tick all of the boxes and pick up any issues in about 3 minutes so I’m not hurting myself any further frankly doing their job for them.
Now I think I need to look into an ICE alternative just in case as I highly doubt my electrics are fully up to the standard they’ll require, and I’m not willing to pay any substantial charge for a non standard install on a rented house, and I’m not willing to ask my landlord to either, not a bear I want to poke.
Back to square one it is then (possibly). Really not sure where to start other than that i may have to go see again if I can comfortably get in and out of a lower car as I do kinda like the look of the Peugeot 308 estate

This whole survey system requires a rethink.
The people getting paid for the installation should do the survey.
And all landlords should not be able to turn down an EV charger installation.
Can i ask what sort of issues you have been having?
I have been having issues with Ohme and even though i have provided them with all the relevant information. They still kept saying that there was information needed. Even though it was provided. So the whole process has just been getting delayed.
Thing for is that we have looked at alot of ICE cars. And tbh for what we need, there is not a lot of choice. Unless we are prepared to put a large AP down.
Colin, you are overthinking the process.
Let Ohme carry out the survey and take it from there.
One step at a time.
It may very well be a standard install.
Worst comes to the worst, its too expensive, or too much hassle, you can move on from there. Cancel the car and go looking at ICE.
Just say to Ohme the survey is causing you distress and anxiety and they have to do the survey. Its not far from the truth.
Leave it to the specialists.
I know of multiple issues already, no earth bond to water (although there appears to be a loose earth cable nearby, possibly just not connected). No rating on the fuse, if it is the fuse I see, old (15 year+) consumer unit, no isolation switch and to top it all off, all of these electrics are in the back of a non-removable kitchen cabinet with very limited space to work and/or add new equipment, oh and very possible it’ll exceed the 15m cable run they consider standard as it’ll have ti go out the back of the house, then around the side, around a garage, then back along the front to where I park.
They already agreed to come do the survey, but the truth is, I am surviving my disability by denying its effect on my life and this has thoroughly kicked that self-delusion into the distance. I probably should never have tried to do it myself but my stubborn streak raised its ugly head.
I tend deal with my disability by planning and possibly over planning for every reasonable possibility so it’s my nature to look into ICE alternatives in case the survey comes back negatively.

As said above, let Ohme do the survey, you have nothing to lose.
Yes, it can be very frustrating when your body doesn’t do what you want/need any longer. Like most on here (I suspect) I have good and bad days and sometimes push myself too far trying to do what I used to be able to do. Had to lie flat on the floor to look under my bed yesterday to make sure my cat hadn’t brought another mouse in, had a real job trying to get back up!, thought I was going to be either stuck there or fall again so bit of a panic to say the least!.
Take a breather!, let them come out and do all the work and see what they say.

As others say, let Ohme do the survey, just explain your health conditions. Our survey was straightforward, if a little time consuming. We had a new consumer unit with new gas and electric meters and an earth bond connected to the water supply pipe. I uploaded the photos and a video staring on the outside wall, showing where the charger will go, where the car is parked and into the house showing the under stairs cupboard where the meter is. They said we’d need a new isolation switch. It’s being installed in 2 weeks.

@colin you are overthinking things.
The main one that concerns me, is the lack of main bonding present to the water pipe. This would have been noted on the EICR as observation C2 – The lack of reliable earthing is potentially dangerous, which could worsen and lead to an electrical shock risk overtime, requiring urgent remidial action. However the water bond maybe in place but you can’t see where it is connected.
Since 2020 landlords are required to carry out a EICR at no more than 5 years or change of tennant. Previously it was every 10 or change of tennant. Landlords are required to give tennants a copy….
The main cut-out fuse – Ohme will put MCB/Fuse ratings (A) into their guess o meter and if the maximimum demand is equal to or greater than 60A they will contact the DNO, not you so don’t worry.
The installers will connect the charger from your meter cupboard. This is normally in a front room or in the hallway.
We have a plastic consumer box with no spare trip socket (the box is 22 years old so not that old really), do you think this means we are likely to need a pay for a non standard installation or a new metal box? I expect others on here have some experience of this.

@ottiebow they may not need to use the consumer box, they may create a Consumer Unit specifically for the charger.
It may not an issue for you.

Your meter tails going from the meter to consumer unit will be split using a special junction box known as Henley blocks. From their a new set of tails will be used to supply a dedicated consumer unit for the charger.
I have had an email telling me a local guy will be in touch soon but haven’t heard anything back yet – I’ll update this if and when I have more information.
Only other issue I know have is the Peugeot e3008 has now seriously caught my eye!!!
