And that looks like a quick buck for people with sticky fingers, if someone can break into someone else’s car for a £30 dashcam, this thing will be wheeled away in a hurry. Convenient product for those wanting to charge without a nearby facility but more so for thieves.

I guess it would be hard to remove it once it’s plugged into a car and charging. The charging cable would be locked on and cutting it would risk electrocution.

Security measures have never stopped thieves before and who knows what lengths these scumbags would go to for money. I have never looked at an electric vehicle plug and its housing, but if it is plastic, I am sure they would simply smash it up to get the cable off or maybe the charger side?

They’d be easy to steal. Multiple things: the cable is detachable on both sides, for starters. You can rip it out on both sides with enough force. They’re locked by a pin (or a latch, depending on the cable), enough force removes that.

You could also just cut it. 100% this has a power switch somewhere, if for example the app doesn’t connect and you can’t disconnect the charger via mobile. Once the power is switched off, you can safely cut the cable at the plug. If it doesn’t have a manual power switch, i’d never plug it into anything. It may be behind a lockable latch or something, but that won’t stop douchebags who steal things for a living.

Another thing to consider, nobody interested in the weight? They say it’s gonna be “around 50lbs”. Which i’d be incredibly surprised by. My first guess for a 8kw pack plus a 3kw inverter would be considerably closer to 70lbs. Heaving 50lbs in and out of the boot constantly gets old really quick (i had a remote controlled car that weighed slightly over 55lbs, and sold it because of that reason).

Agreed. I think the weight and bulk of this is going to make it impracticable for regular use.
