apologies if this has been asked and excuse my ignorance.

hybrids get their electric charge from regen braking etc, does that still apply with plug in hybrids could you go a considerable time without plugging in? would you cause damage if you dont plug in regularly?

i cant have a charger installedd here, my only hope is that the council put in a public charger when they create offroad parking spaces here.

but as my mileage is made up of v short journies and only 2-3k a year i think i could go hybrid or full ev next time, i am just trying to work out which is best for me and my brain hurts lol.

even with only 200 mile range on a BEV you would only need to charge 10-15 times. obviously any range greater than 200 miles would reduce the amount of charges you needed.

Mitch I have an PHEV, plug in hybrid, and I charge via an outdoor socket rather than an ev charger. If you can do this an PHEV would do you perfectly. If you can’t a full BEV would be your answer.

I would look on zap-map for chargers near you to make sure you will be able to charge relatively easily.

Regen doesn’t give much in the way of charging your car so you would need to charge it if you want to drive pure electric.

There are other non plug in hybrid that some find give decent mileage but our previous xc40 was this type and gave terrible mpg.

VW are reportedly stating to use a battery next year that gives 100 miles charge in five minutes, this would be ideal for you.

When are you due to change?

I would be speaking to the council in advance of their work ensuring they put in public chargers. If you get no joy with them speak to your local councillor or MP to help.
