Our current car (BMW Gran Tourer 220i M Sport) is due to be replaced in November and we can order from 6th August.

Shortlisted 4 cars, the Galaxy, Terraco, Superb and Passat estates. After looking at all 4 the Galaxy and Terraco went to bottom of the shortlist and the Superb estate was replaced by it’s hatchback variant, boot is just so much more usable.

The thing that got me when speaking to VW and Skoda dealers was that I can order the car now, way before my motability order date, to “get ahead of the game” as they put it.

Has anyone else heard of this and done it themselves. Are there any pitfals I need to be concerned with if I do order early.

I did ask VW dealer what happens if the car is removed from the scheme as happens regularly and he said he could get VW to put it back on the scheme, which seemed pretty farfetched.

I went into a Skoda dealership regarding the kodiaq a few weeks ago and was told I could order it even though it’s not on the Motability list

@FlyingScotsman   VW dealer speaks with forked tongue Ke-mo sah-bee.

Firstly, “Getting ahead of the game” is rubbish! he can not order the car until Motability authorise him to do so. That will be for the 6th of August as you said. So ordering now mean nothing and certainly will not put you ahead of the game!

Secondly, If a car goes off the scheme. If you ordered a car during your 3 months for the 6th of August and the car drops off the scheme, then your order would still be achieved. As for him saying he would get VW to put it back on the scheme is as you say far fetched.

Joss. He can order the car as his own stock.  Glos Guy’s BMW dealer did that, if I remember right.  The second part, I agree, it’s nonesense.

I have done this, I ordered the ID.3 at the start of June, I officially can order from the 18th July.

The dealer was more than happy to do so, I payed a small deposit and will go the dealership next week, to complete the new application.

In my case the AP has reduced, so I was fortunate. If it had gone up then I would of obviously payed it within reason!

Yes the dealer can place the order for the car earlier than your ‘official’ order date. I did it last year when I had my BMW 218i Gran Coupe. My date was 31st of July but they placed the order for the car in the middle of June.

Like others have said they will just order the car as a stock order then on your date they apply to Motability.
The danger of the car dropping off the scheme would be their issue, I would imagine they could apply to Motability but ultimately it would be the dealer that has to do the legwork and take the risk so I say if you definitely want the car, and due to the current delays all car manufacturers are having, then the earlier you order the bigger the chance you will get the car for your changeover date.

                  Hope this helps mate.

Thanks all. Might take me until my official date to choose which car to go for. Vw is a lot cheaper, but Skoda is hit with rest of family.

Thank you all for clearing up what felt bit mirky and slightly shady.
