Option packs

I have just read the last post regarding the option packs and i also contacted MB regarding the disparity in option pack costs, i spoke with a very nice lady called Kim and i explained that from reading the forum there was some  concern about the level of equipment and in particular the lack of many of the support factors included on the other two vehicles and not included on the  enyaq unless you added rather expensive option packs.

MB do not select the vehicles that appear on the scheme , they are set by the manufacturers and MB only discuss the actual overall cost to the scheme members, the cost +VAT is payed when the lease is agreed with the dealer, options it seems are down to the individual.

I did mention that there are times when VAT is removed from certain items for people who have disabilities and was this possible with the option packs, unfortunately it is a bit of a grey area as the .GOV website is not very clear however Kim did provide a phone number to contact and raise the question regarding what is acceptable and what is including VAT.

The number is 03001231073 VAT disabled relief helpline, hope this helps someone to get a better understanding of how VAT can be saved or not as te case may be.

My parting suggesting to Kim was to take our discussion forward to the people dealing with manufacturers and highlight the disparity with option packs in the interest of the scheme members.

Vat relief is only available for cars (and by default the adaptions) that are substantial and permanent and are required to allow a disabled person to operate the vehicle.

Also only available for persons who in the main are wheelchair bound.

Nothing a manufacturer produces in a standard car meets this very strict criteria. This such as heated seats or electric seats whilst making a vehicle more comfortable are in no way covered VAT relief.

Ive spent considerable time investigating the matter as I have been considering leaving the scheme. The issue has come up many times on many disabled forums and always ends in the same result.

Not even every adaption is accepted.

The only way to get options VAT free is to buy a new car, add the options you want and have your dealer fit an approved adaption and declare your wheelchair status and you would get VAT relief on the whole order, of course buying the car yourself.

So this begs the question , do wheelchair bound MB customers getting a suitable adapted vehicle pay vat on options .

We did not pay VAT on factory fit options on our WAV.

The question now 8s for me at least, do I pay the extra £4900 for the option packs on the Enyaq, or just go for the I.D.5 or aryia?

as I can’t order until the 14th October, mtge re is still much tine for cars to mostly come off the scheme or, if I am lucky, added to the scheme before then.

If choice becomes poor, I will just go back to looking at petrol cars such as the Kodiaq, but even with the lower AP, what I woukd want added still comes up to the same price.

Tine will tell, but I don’t see the id5 staying on and we saw this quarter, the choices of Aryia drop to 9ne

It’s a conversation you’d hope MB are having with Skoda in preparation for next month’s Quarterly update.  The addition of packs included within the AP would benefit us as customers as there is a strong chance that the price would be lower assuming MB recognise the improved selling prices over the standard available vehicles.
