For £1343.00, they would be running the cable from inside my front door (electric box inside) along the bottom of a wall to my driveway ( in front of 5m garden/grass), then digging a small hole, placing a post base, pouring some concrete in and finally fitting and OHME Home Pro post to the base.
No trenches, no major groundworks and apparently this could affect the warranty and CAN only be done by OHME’s “specialist installers”.
Absolute tosh, anyone with a nuance of DIY could complete this work at a fraction of the price.
Just a total rip off, preying on the misfortune of Motability’ disabled customers.
At least the normal person can tell OHME to stick it if they came back with such ridiculous quotes.
The Motability customer has that option, but has the forfeit the “Free Charger” offer they accepted when placing their EV order.
This is just not fair and Motability need to step in and sort this out, as I suspect a lot of Motability customers will think they are getting a good deal and pay up.
February 26, 2024 at 9:20 pm #259536For everyone who has received or receiving quotes that you feel our are extortionate or inflated by ohme or there partners please email
andrewmiller@motabilityoperations.co.uk
This is the CEO of motability operations
I emailed and had a response / phone call within 24hrs
More of us that complain the better
Forward the quotes you are receiving and how ohme are using there position of sole provider as a monopoly
February 26, 2024 at 9:30 pm #259538Hi everyone
Can we list who the installation partner was in these cases so we can identify a pattern and the area
And can we list installation partners who you feel gave a honest quote and would recommend through ohme for non standard installations
Cheers
February 26, 2024 at 9:38 pm #259539My quote from OHME was provided to them by:
Smarter Utility
Block 4 Unit 4 Fullwood Industrial Estate, Hamilton, ML3 9AZ
Who are apparently OHME’s specialist for central Scotland, but 60 miles from me.
I cannot understand why this installer was chosen, as there are dozens of EV installers in the Edinburgh/ East Lothian area.

if you got the groundwork done and called a local electrician to install the charger, your looking at £80 more than Ohme are charging for non standard work. Take into account Motability pay for standard installation up to the value of £800, which includes the charger, 15m of cable, electrical certs etc. Making a grand total of about £2150 Ohme gets for the job!!
As above post email Motability CEO
February 26, 2024 at 9:55 pm #259541OHME are just ripping off Motability customers, plain and simple, and I suspect that their installers are aware of this, hence the outrageous quotes???
I would say “stuff it”, but why should I?
I was offered a “Free charger with standard install” when I ordered my EV.Why should I then pay up to £1,400.00 to have an EV charge point fitted myself, when in reality with the free offer, I should only be paying circa £550.00?
I have emailed Andrew Miller and await a response.
February 26, 2024 at 9:55 pm #259542Anyone receiving inflated or questionable quotes need to email the motability CEO along with your quote
andrewmiller@motabilityoperations.co.uk
I was advised by CEO team Ohme and motability should be questioning the quote on your behalf and challenging the quote
In my case I asked from the start to use a registered ohme approved installer and they refused stating they have to pass the installer off thier choice
Still waiting for my quote to come through so will take it from there once it does
but I will be taking it back to CEO team if it’s inflated
Best thing I would recommend is getting your own quote and passing that to ceo and ohme
Cheers
February 26, 2024 at 10:08 pm #259543I had my non standard installation today ( 4 weeks after ordering car) which was queued for £280. I have 25m from energy meter and I needed a post for charger. That’s how they did it.
February 26, 2024 at 10:08 pm #259544February 26, 2024 at 10:09 pm #259545sorry for 3 posts I could not add them all in one
February 26, 2024 at 10:18 pm #259546Thanks
Did they run the cable along the fence
Can you advise on who ohme used and area as may help others in same area
For the length of cable and post I would say that was good value and what I would expect
Cheers
February 26, 2024 at 11:48 pm #259552They put cable behind the fence and used clippers to attach it to the fance inside of the garden.
I am in Cambridgeshire area and my company was MAG Electrical Services LTDFebruary 27, 2024 at 4:28 am #259555I thought I was being ripped off at £750 for my post and ground works.
I never did get a proper invoice from them.
I feel your pain.

February 27, 2024 at 9:19 am #259560My husband obtained a quote this morning from a local EV installer and they quoted £1,446.00 including VAT.
This included “Additional non-standard installation works” with post for £347.50
So, when compared to the OHME quote of £1,353.00, OHME have over quoted by £1,000.00.

I wasn’t far out last night lol
You need to send these details to Andrew Miller, showing the obsurd different in the non standard install costs.

I’m just off the phone with mobility/Ohme about this lot. Waited in all day for an AM appointment for a phone call at 5pm saying he’ll be with me a 6pm. Called him at 6:30pm and he’s in his house obviously not coming out.
Ohme are moving us to a different contractor the only reason they have so much availability is because they are sh”te and cheap (to Ohme)!
February 27, 2024 at 2:30 pm #259590When a big outfit such as Motorbility makes the mistake of putting all of their EV customers eggs in one basket imo it can/has led to and given free rein allowing Ohme to become complacent in its operations
This is evident in the Easee to Ohme swap as I have found to my cost along with its cavalier anyone will do as long as they are the cheapest
Seems Motorbility have now completly tied themselves to Ohme when from an operational point of view the advantage would be to have at least another EV Charger as an option as they had before.
I see from above that this has also led to extortionate extra costs to potential motorbility EV customers
Unless Motorbility bring in another contractor alongside Ohme I cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel
February 27, 2024 at 2:50 pm #259592So I emailed Mr Miller this morning.
At 2pm I received a call from a very nice Account Manager.
She is going to contact OHME and ask them to justify the high cost for raising two slabs and digging a trench into the earth underneath.
February 27, 2024 at 3:16 pm #259596I have a call back at 3:30 from an account manager on the back of emailing Andrew Miller last night.
I have already been through the Motability contacting Ohme to justify costs, to which I received the reply:
Hi, I’ve been checking this issue with our scheme partner team, who contacted Ohme on your behalf today. They have advised that we are unable to cover the £1343 costs and we cannot allow you to do your own ground works, If you are unable to manage this amount, please contact our Application team on 0300 456 4566 to discuss installing the charge point at an alternative driver’s address instead. Kind Regards Motability
It will interesting to see where this afternoon’s conversation goes, as I have also forwarded 3 quotes, all under £1,400, for full installation, including additional works, from 3 local EV charger installers.
I will update on the outcome.
February 27, 2024 at 4:03 pm #259603@JJB how did the call go?
Apart from ripping Motability customers off, as anyone actually given you a concrete reason why the home owner can’t get the groundworks completed themselves.
February 27, 2024 at 5:49 pm #259620The call was as expected, no further forward despite supply 3 quotes for a full install, including charger and additional works, which all came in around £1,400.00 and clearly proved that Ohme was overcharging on their quote.
Motabilty are going to look into the quote again, but last weeks effort by Motability did not change Ohme’s position one bit.
So back to square one and seriously thinking about ditching the whole thing and cancelling the EV which is due for delivery next week. Renault will not be impressed.
But, firstly I will await a reply from Motability and see what the outcome is with Ohme.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>The reason given by Ohme as to why a homeowner cannot get the groundwork’s done themselves is because “it would affect the 3 year warranty if the installation is not carried out by their own specialist installers”</p>

My OHME quote, just for the additional work
Don’t you just love quotes like this. There are five items on this invoice with just one overall price….no breakdown of costs at all. I can just imagine the engineer sitting down with a cup of tea doing the quote whilst watching the national lottery results and just picking the first four numbers on the lottery results and thinking….that’ll do nicely!

The 3 year warranty is for the charger.
How much cable in total is needed from meter to charger (A standard install allows up to 15m)?
The word specialist means very little other than refering to the chager. An approved or authorised installer just mean they are approved by xyz manufacturer to fit their products and sometimes refers to being members of an association such as OZEV for EV chargers or be a member of an electrcal association such as the NICEIC. Sometimes to be approved installer of a certain product, you go on a days
trainingvisit at a manufacturers facility, to prove you are compatant installing the “Product” alone. It has nothing to do with any third party work away from the actual product itself – this third party work either forms part of the qualifications for the trade you in or it can be done by a third party installer if they are better suited to carry out this work.As far as I’m concerned Ohme do not manufacture or have approved post supplier, so will be relying on a third part post no different to what you yourself can buy.
There is no law or regulation on who prepares the groundwork as long as it meets minimum specifications and there is certainly no law in installing a small concrete pad to put a post on. I often get someone to prepare the grounwork and install ducting ready to install the cable and mount the charger on a post.
Ohme are being unreasonable and blatantly ripping ofd disabled people under Motability’s nose and Motability are allowing this to happen and you are in your rights to ask for a full breakdown of costs from Ohme.
I would certainly be going to your MP and asking them to pass over relevant information to the minister of disabled, I also see no reson why you can’t complain to the competition watchdog or any other relevant organisation that would be willing to listen.
I would also suggest to Motability, to award the amount (£) for standard installation and you will get it done privately. I would also tell them you are taking matters further and if necessary to the financial Ombudsman (higher up complaint tree)
Don’t give up 🙂

It’s unbelievable isn’t it…. I’m only ten minutes down the road from you in the Pans and my installation company is in Preston! Beginning to wonder if think Prestonpans is a suburb of Preston!
You couldn’t make this stuff up!
