Ohme Charger replacing BP Charger

We had a BP charger fitted around four years ago when we got our first EV. It has never been particularly good, and the app has been discontinued, so we can’t interact with it to change any of the settings. Also there appears to be an intermitted fault when the car doesn’t charge overnight.

We ordered is a new car recently, and as part of the process I was asked if I wanted a charger. I said that it would be nice but I thought that as I had already had a charger on the scheme I wouldn’t qualify.

Got an email from Ohme and I rang them up on the off chance and they told me that motability had approved the new charger. Very pleased to get the old one replaced.

Also grateful to the Volvo dealer who put the request through to motability for a new charger on the basis at it couldn’t hurt to ask. 🙂

      Always worth asking.

As a matter of interest I wonder who owns the chargers that are fitted as part of the lease? Never really thought about it, but perhaps I should have, as I would most likely to have replaced the old BP charger anyway.

The overall build quility is better than Ohme, however Ohme is a popular charger because of its compatabability with the intelligent tariff’s. Not as that matters to you.

We specifically wanted the Zappi because of the intelligent tariffs compatibility especially for winter use.

My point is Motability really listened to out concerns and issues, and it was great of them to fund the Zappi installation, which could be helpful for others to know too

Thanks for this.  i also have a BP pulse chargemaster( lol what a joke that name is)  it works because i use octopus IO, but everytime i use it there is a red light that flashes afterwards and i have to turn the fuses off to clear it.  like you mention the app is not supported and wasnt very good to start with.  i will also ask about the new ohme charger when i look for my next lease next year.  like you say if you dont ask!!!

Why wait untill your next lease?

Motability might turn round and say it’s out of warranty, it’s down to you!
