Picked the hire car up at the dealership at 5.30pm. Pitch black outside, given the keys and paperwork, and told the car was outside.

On the paperwork it states there is one scratch, but when I checked the car out this morning the scratch was bigger, and there was a few dents also. Contacted the hire company who took the information but didn’t say anything to me. Should I contact Motability?

      Thanks,

      James.

I just had a courtesy car last week although they did show me around they never marked down any scuff or condition, so just in case I took 4 photos, front/back/sides all straight on. When I returned the vehicle they never even came out to check.

James you’ve done the right thing by informing the hire company, if your able to, to ease the worry and if you’ve got the car for a while it may be best to take photos at this point, if your unable to or the hire company is close by you could always pop in and get them to up date the form to your satisfaction.

to be honest upon your returning the car they will probably take little notice, and by informing them you’ve covered yourself.

I have had 5 severely bad issues with Europecar (Glasgow based) all on separate occasions. I would be here all day writing a novel about it, so I will try to be brief. On first occasion I got a bill for £60 from Europecar saying my fuel wasn’t full , thankfully I recorded me filling it to the brim (don’t let the garage see you record!). It got wiped immediately, hmmmm. Several occasions after that scratches and dents nail’s in tyres  everywhere, phoned Europecar and let them know. after I handed car back fourth time they hit me with a large bill for a tire. I ask if I could see damage they provided me the image which I seriously laughed   At, phoned motability and told them they can deal with there contractor I’m done. Just last week my Nissan xtrail went into the garage for the 5th Time(I know) and Europcar sent a qashqai down, I couldn’t believe   What they sent me! Documents said there was no dents or scratches. There were loads huge ones I made the guy record all damage around car while filming him then I looked inside! Sour milk all over the back floor, cigarette ash in passenger seat and boot smelled like a wet dog. My patience was finished with europcar .phoned manager told him how a felt! Then phoned motability to deal with this but MADE SURE motability LOGGED all damages visible inside and out!.Sadly I had to take the car. But I made sure motability raised this to the highest level which they advised me that This was the norm with Europcar. As usual with Motability there customer service is Outstanding and they dealt with everything!.

My Advise would be video /photo everything and phone up motability to keep a log of everything. Hopefully no body has to endure what I had to go through.

            sorry this is long people.

I had the same experience in the past with another Tiguan I was given as a like for like, except this one was dirty inside and out and covered in marks and bits of trim loose, lots of small car park dents and I was told sign here there’s no damage on the car?
when I asked what about all the obvious ones even I could see on such a dirty car?  he said it’s fine sir it’s all wear and tear.

I only had the car two days and they collected it, the guy said all ok sir, i had a dig at him joking where do I send the dry cleaning bill to as it was delivered with the interior so dirty.

He said nothing took the car and that was that, if I was paying for it I would have refused it, but I thought great I can get rid of all the things I wanted to take to the dump with no worries, so apart from dog walking duties and going to the tip 3 times that’s the only miles I put on it.

Yep Europcar are crap I have a huge complaint with them through Motability at the moment. Was in hire from 5th February to 22nd November this year. Had 9 cars in that period through breakdowns and fleet control, ALL of them had unrecorded damage and the tanks were not full, I even had one with tyre pressure light and the adblue warning saying less than 200miles before it wouldn’t start.
