Having seen a few negative comments posted on here regarding bad experiences at dealers, I thought I should even things up by sharing my positive experience today at Ocean BMW in Plymouth.

Having been isolated since March 12th due to lockdown and frustrated at not being able to go and view a replacement car, I had to go out yesterday for a hospital appointment.  I managed to combine this with getting my current car serviced and MOT’d, and using some spare time to go and view (From a safe distance), the BMW X1.  I didn’t have an appointment and had no expectation of being being able to talk with anyone in the Sales team at Ocean, but Lee came outside to talk with me and arranged a test drive for this morning.  I was very pleased with the car on the test drive (Had it for an hour – though could have had longer possibly on a quieter day), and felt there was no need to look at anything else, hving done extensive research online during isolation.

An hour later and I was ready to place an order.  I was so impressed with the way that I was received and treated as a potential customer by Lee and the other people there that I spoke to, that I felt I should give Ocean BMW a positive mention here.

I’m now eagerly awaiting my new shiny BMW,  It may take a while to arrive, but I’m happy and know that I will enjoy it when it comes.

Thanks Lee and the people at Ocean BMW.

P.S.  I think it would be a great idea for people to share their positive reviews on here, so that others in the same area may feel slightly less nervous about visiting their local dealers and know that they will be treated well and with respect as motability customers, rather than feel like ‘2nd class citizens’ as has been reported here following people’s bad experiences with other dealers.  Great to have a confidence boost up front for anyone else ready to go looking around.

I should also mention that my current car is not a BMW.  It just so happened that the BMW garage was in between my current dealer’s and the hospital.

Fantastic post sir! Lovely to hear positive feedback and a very good point regarding easing any potential anxiety felt by others in your part of the country.

Thank you for cheering up the end of my day!

Good luck with your new car, I hope you squeeze every last bit of enjoyment out of it.

            Thanks Matt.

I figured that people who have been isolating for the past 3 months are nervous enough right now, about going outside again and meeting other people.  Anyone else in this position could do without feeling any extra concerns about how going to a dealer just to have a look or ask some questions.

It worked out well for me and there are still some things out there that are worth the effort – but still stay safe and follow all the social distancing guidance.

We have had a 3 series on the scheme previously and couldn’t fault BMW dealership (haliwell jones Chester)both for the initial consultation and servicing always well looked after

              Steve was our mobility salesman

Not sure if he is still with them

                    Nice post Andy. ??

Thank you for adding some positivity on here. With the stresses of all that’s happening, it’s difficult some times to find some good  so we’ll done for that.

I’ve an X1 now and am due to change any time I can get to a dealer. I used Halliwell Jones in Llandudno, North Wales.
It’s an 18d SE with 566 code wheels, HK sound and LED lights (std now but I had to pay in 2017)
I absolutely love it and am desperate to try a 3 Series for fit for entry/exit but I’m not going to be able to do so before the AP’s change and knowing my luck Sky rocket out of reach.
I’m sure you’ll love it. Enjoy.

? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?

I’ve ordered a 2.0 petrol auto xline in storm bay exterior with oyster interior.  Drove the diesel on the test drive and very happy with it, but felt that the mpg of the petrol should be fine with mainly rural driving (I live in Cornwall).  I have relatives in Bristol and the future of diesels there is uncertain following the decision to ban them from the city centre from next year.

He loves it, although only done 280 miles since he picked it up in January due to shielding too.

                        Very nice car.

                            That’s a cracking colour isn’t it? Inside and out. ?  ??

They didn’t have that colour at the dealer’s, but I’m looking forward to seeing it when it arrives.  The oyster leather should keep the interior nice, bright and airy in the absence of a sunroof, and I think the storm bay looks great (Though I’ve only seen it in photos and videos so far).

I’ve not seen one that colour in the metal but it look amazing in pictures. It’s a recent colour addition so very few will be on the road when you get yours.

I have to say, even with the dark cloth interior that I have, the cabin is light and airy. Sadly though, the cloth really doesn’t suit me. It makes entry/exit so difficult and painful. After many years with leather, I thought I’d give cloth a go and it was a bad choice by me but at least I know now. To add it was also £1,900 if I remember correct.
This is another reason why I want to try a 3 Series Sport for size. It has leather so if I can get in without too much pain, I really want it. Fingers crossed ?

The 3 series looks great Wayne.  It is around a foot longer than the X1, which swayed me in the end, as I have to reverse and turn in a limited space from my car port at home, (And not easy for me looking over my shoulder with my bad joints).  I’ve spec’d the tech pack 1 for the reverse camera and that pack also comes with the fully adaptive lights.  The video link below is the best representation of the true colour that I’ve seen for the storm bay X1.

Good luck with the 3 series.  Hope you’ll love it.  Camera and adaptive lights as standard on the sport I think.

Oh that looks amazing in the video, Andy. ?

The Camera is a great addition and the fully adaptive headlights are amazing as well. It’s these that act similar to Audi’s matrix lights.
BMW are naughty really in that they have adaptive and fully adaptive like you’ve specced. They’re quite different in function.
BMW removed a video in 2018 advertising what they called “LED headlights with extended function” as the video showed functions it just did not do.
I know this because I was partly if not fully the cause! ??

And thank you. I just hope the 3 Series stays on and that I fit it. A friend has one but I haven’t tried getting in it for a couple of years now. The only issue I have if all’s well with fit is I need elec seats and it’s a £2k option (well, £1900). If I can’t get a deal, the car may be binned regardless for a Tiguan.
But hay ho. At my age I’m used to being unlucky so glass half full young man, glass half full. ? If nothing else, I’m so thankful that Motability are helping me massively. The scheme truly is a lifeline. ??

It’s good to hear when dealers are good and likewise with me, The dealer allbeit a honda one that i got my newest car on monday from has been brilliant and considering all the issues with covid and the recent cyber attack an all.. They are the same company i got the golf from the vertu group and they been excellent in every dept cannot fault them..
