      Hi everyone,
I had 1 year left on personal independent payment so I decided to join the scheme, I have difficulty in going out both physically and mentally so getting a car in the scheme has been a life saver, I can now go to GP and Hospital appointments without the stress and anxiety of public transportand even go out with my wife to quiet places to enjoy the countryside etc.

My problem is, I have only had the car 1 month and I’ve just recieved renewal forms to fill in for a pip assessment, I would like to believe it will get renewed but it is always playing on my mind it won’t, every time I go through this I end up in hospital from anxiety/panic attacks.

I can’t go on holidays anymore as I can’t travel on a plane or stay in hotels, I can only travel by car to go camping so I don’t have to worry about other people around me, my wife and I have booked 3 weeks in france camping in a few months with the new car so the euroshuttle and camp sites all have the registration.

My worry is now that if for some reason They don’t renew it I will lose the car before we even go and I will lose all the money I have saved and spent for the travel and camping.

I was supposed to have the car until September and now I have recieved new forms to fill in the sleepless nights and anxiety has kicked in with the worry about “What if”

Can they take the car early even though my entitlement was September?

      Thank you.

      Rob.

Try not to worry too much!

The DWP have a huge backlog with reviews/renewals, so its likely it won’t happen anytime soon.

        Google PIP renewal backlogs 🙂

When’s a few months, two? If so you should be fine. Phone them up close to renewal date line date and ask for an extension. Explain that you are having trouble getting the forms filled in. This will buy you a minimum 2 week extension*. So you should get to the trip before any decision is made on your claim. If you do not get motability award again I think you are allowed two weeks before car is handed back. Even say 1 week and the 2 week extension and by the time they do the actual assessment you should be back from the holiday.

          * Don’t leave form to last minute, do it asap and sit on it a bit just to buy you a bit of time.

            Thankyou for replies.
I go away in May. So we are looking at 4 months.
My entitlement was supposed to be until September.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the reassessment—just carry on with your routine and plans.

For context, I got my renewal form last February, sent it off, and only received bi-monthly texts confirming they had it. Finally In December, I received a call from a health professional, the call lasted about 15-minutes and to my surprise resulted in an enhanced and backdated award.

The assessor advised that going forward, I should only report any changes in circumstances on the form and avoid repeating or resubmitting the information they already had, this was a relief as having to reiterate my situation repeatedly had been quite stressful.
