I spotted the advert for the ‘New’ Ford on TV last night and thought how strange the front end looked. It seems that a lot of the latest electric vehicles have a front end that looks like they have run into a block of concrete.

Personal taste I know but I wondered if there was a reason for this at all?

Thing is with these adverts it’s all about some goon smiling now spinning around, or rushing about with a pouting face, nothing to do with the actual car..

What I saw of the car it looks great..

Advertising it a full year before it’s expected in the showrooms, they’re obviously hoping to fill their order books before they turn a wrench.

Perhaps this is their vision of the industry going forward, that we plan our new cars a year ahead. Motability would have to rethink their ordering policy if that became the norm.

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

@RogerWilko put up some interesting revenue figurers for Ford on the “new ford EV thread”

Maybe Ford advertising a year earlier, is to see what interest there is before they get a spanner out.

All cars sold in Europe and the UK have to meet the requirements of the pedestrian impact regulations. This was the end of bull bars, as these, even the small ones didn’t meet the spec.

essentially, an average sized adult if hit by the front, and projected into the bonnet, there must be enough space between the hard parts of the engine bay and the bonnet, so that a head impact, the bonnet deforms to reduce damage. Same for children and going under the cars front.

these standards have reduced the amount of leeway designers have in designing front ends. Remember the discovery sport has an airbag in the front screen, or the bonnets designed to lift in impact?

VW Beetles worked quite well for pedestrian impact. At low speed pedestrians rolled up the bonnet, over the roof and ended on the back bumper.

Ford are bringing the Capri name back for one of their new EV’s in the near future (one for us old farts that name).

apparently ford are going all electric with only making 4 cars from 2024 Puma, Explorer, Capri and Mustang. Yep, Capri
