RogerWilkoNot sure if the system will allow me to post a link, but Ford have released a new EV SUV to be named the Ford Explorer.
Its not the behemoth I have driven in the AuSA,mtge Disvovery size, but the size of a quashqai. Actually based on VWs MEB platform the platform for id4, Enyaq.
However at first sight, the interior looks better than the id4.
looks good. Expect to be in showrooms Q3/4 of this year

Nice looking car Roger.

The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.March 21, 2023 at 7:54 pm #215954
MaccaIt’s growing on me, I like the interior ?
And if the dash doesn’t look like it’s been lifted from a focus that’ll be a huge step forward
March 21, 2023 at 7:59 pm #215960What happened to aerodynamics? Looks to me like it has the drag coefficient of a breezeblock.
March 21, 2023 at 9:12 pm #215964I like the fact that you can move the infotainment tablet thing out of the way when you’re driving if you don’t need to use it. Pretty cool that it has a locking compartment underneath the tablet too
March 22, 2023 at 10:47 am #216009It’s an interesting look outside. The inside looks much better than many on offer.
Any bets the only ones on scheme will be the 52kWh battery version? The bigger battery should compete with ID5 type range but as wmc says it has the aerodynamics of a breezeblock, which will mean that the difference between 60mph and 70 will be huge losses in range.
So, it’ll be a nice, large, local/town car and for family trips to the beach/countryside/theme parks but a long distance trip will take longer as you’ll have to balance speed and recharging breaks.
That said, if it’s the bigger battery with a decent AP, there will be a reasonable take up from the scheme.

MaccaSo the boot capacity is comparable with our XC40, only 2 litres less, but the height is about 2 inches shorter.
Hmm ?, at 6’2″ with mobility problems I was wanting to have the next motor a little taller, hence being interested in either the Subaru Forester or XTrail Tekna coming on scheme.
Sitting back to see what develops on the scheme going forward, and not in any rush to change at the 3 year mark.
I certainly wouldn’t dismiss at least having a look at this Ford though, depending on which specs they bring on scheme.

ajnI think that’s a great looking vehicle, clicked the vid with thoughts of I’ll watch this if I can’t sleep later, couldn’t turn it off, grabbed my attention till the end..??
March 22, 2023 at 5:57 pm #216094Just read a story on Mailonline that says they are bringing back the capri in EV for next year.
Enyaq EV
March 22, 2023 at 6:20 pm #216097Mk1 Capri 3000GT BEV
300 horse’s – up to 310 mile range – 0-60 in 6.4s – £40,000 price tag
It will also reportedly keep its traditional four headlights, with the added modern features of an interior touch screen and wireless phone charge
And part of Fords mission to make an electric icon.
March 22, 2023 at 6:28 pm #216098Just in case anyones forgot what they looked like ?
March 22, 2023 at 6:30 pm #216092
MaccaYeah, loads of material suddenly hitting the net now.
I also think they’ve totally nailed it design wise. For me a lot of the EV’s just seem to have no character. But not the Ford, its making a statement for sure and given that I like boxy SUV’s, its baking my cakes for sure.

MaccaI wonder, is the Capri MEB EV the future coupe style Explorer that’s mentioned in some of the promo that dropped this week? ?

Used to love seeing the 2.8i Capri traffic police car, was a thing of beauty!

MaccaVery curious to see how that plays out as there’s every opportunity to really b@lls it up.
But, if they get it right, then who knows it may somewhat resemble the BMW X4 / X6 styling.March 22, 2023 at 8:56 pm #216113
RogerWilkoHey Macca, what about the Skoda Enyaq? I’m 6ft 1in and fir easily in one
March 22, 2023 at 10:23 pm #216116
MaccaInteresting looking motor, but like the VW ID and Nissan Ariya, a micky taking AP makes it a non starter
March 22, 2023 at 10:42 pm #216128Hmm , at 6’2″ with mobility problems I was wanting to have the next motor a little taller
Indeed it’s listed at 1.6m height, my Ateca id 1.615 and at 6’5-1/2″ I can still get into that but realistically I’m now looking at the Mazda CX-5 at 1.67m or the Kuga at 1.669. The Kuga may be an option but the new version is supposedly coming around August so I may just extend and wait and see what it’s like.
I’m also confused, didn’t the original ad suggest Ford were launching a new ev for £20,000? the video says starting around £40,000??
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

BertyPhaedra, strangely enough I was visiting a friend today and her new motbility car is the Mazda CX5 ,cherry red 2.0 petrol. But standing next to it, it seemed huge. It made my Pug 2008 look decidedly small.
She ordered it on November 2022 and delivered in January. I said that was quick delivery and she said something like – it was already on the boat or something.
March 23, 2023 at 1:09 pm #216208Firstly, I found the Ford for $20,000, it’s the new Maverick EV pickup, and unfortunately def. not going to be sold in the uk 🙁
The Mazda looks great in the Soul Crystal red unfortunately it’s an extra £240 on top of the standard metallic colours 🙁 Much as I’d like it the the driver assistance pack for £200 is a better choice/value.

MaccaThe XC40 has roof rails, and the Explorer, in the promo material at least, doesn’t. Even though the Explorer is documented to be 2 inches shorter in height, it may just level off with the Volvo in cabin height. ?
Be good to check that out when it hits dealerships in the flesh.

RogerWilkoInteresting article in the Financial Times today.
Ford have forecasted a (wait for it…) loss of $3 Billion this year making electric vehicles!
loss is growing:
$900 million 2021
$2.1 Billion in 2022
Ford Blue, mtge ICE division is expected to make a profit of $7 Billion before interest and tx
building electric cars is not cheap it seems
