I ordered a replace the car in early March & I’ve been in the scheme many years.
I have several first names- and all on my passport & drivers  licence.

but day to day I’ve always been known by my second name & all my bank accounts, council tax etc…

I was due to collect my new car tomorrow from dealer but they can’t process – as the first name on my licence is different to the name that Motability operations & DWP have me as in their system (my second name)

ive now got to request a reversion to my first name from dwp by erring to them & if they do it then I have to inform Motability operations – who will then do their own process.
these may take several weeks & while the dealer is happy to hold my car for a few weeks – if not resolved they will cancel my order.

even if I get it changed it’ll mean my pro rata payment of GCB cheque will be issued in my first name, which my bsnk won’t accept etc….

I know many people who have several Christian names & are know by their second or third name & not necessarily their first name.

I understand it’s been policy ahd due diligence but as a 20 yr plus customer and having lived at the sage a dress, safe phone number and email & the drivers licence signed in second name – as it’s not my first name tuen I risk loosing the car.
Plus I’m moving from manual to auto due to my health & disability

it’s really stressed my out son much so I had a panic attack while on web chat with Motsbility operations 🙁

If you’re changing from manual to auto due to your health, might I suggest using just one name for the sake of your sanity.

If you choose to use a multitude of names, then you should expect a multitude of issues.

I agree TonyD surely you use your legal name on documents not your preferred name.

Motability has always maintained at the 3 months before period to make sure Name and address etc are in order with dvla and dwp. If your names Dave and your call yourself Sharon that’s up to you but if it’s official then they should have you actual and full name on file, everything else is Known as.

My wife uses her second name, but on any official documents, she always uses her full name.

Surely using a second name on a bank account and not your legal name is illegal.

I think a few people are confused by Dante’s description of his name situation.

i have 3 forenames, two are family names honouring relatives and the 3rd is my given name, the one I am referred to and have been since birth. In order, it is my 3rd name.

Born in the 60s, this was never a problem until probably this century. Previously, I would fill in documents underlining my given name and everything would be in that name. Order didn’t matter. Now with computerisation, credit cards, bank accounts etc have all 3 names on them and when I book airline tickets, I have to book in my first name.

To answer Elliot, if a name is on your birth certificate, whatever the order, it is legal. Unfortunately organisations now will only accept the first name on documents.

Mossfin, I thought that law had changed due to money laundering legislation as otherwise you could have several accounts each in a different name.

Elliot, I understand what you mean. However, if you have two or three names on your birth certificate, they are all your legal name. What has happened, not only with banks but airlines and other organisations, is that they now demand that you match your first name with everything.

Years ago, I dropped my middle name from documents with W being my first name and A my third. My credit card is AW and my bank WA. Some hospitals have me as W and others as A so anytime I’m asked my name now, I used a double forename!    Much easier.

That’s what I was saying Mossfin, on a bank account you must have your first name first.
