Missing front number plate

Have arrived home tonight to find my MY21 Volvo is missing its front number plate. Could anyone tell me if it’s normally attached by pads only?
Not sure if someone has pulled it off or whether it’s fallen off. No sign of damage. Have logged it with Police Scotland in case I’m pulled over. Calling Motability in the morning & wondering how I get a replacement without a registration document-hoping it’s an easy process!

It’s usually attached by screws (correct me anyone if I’m wrong)? I’d imagine someone has pulled it off for some weird/ strange reason. Also people like to take number plates to clone cars for crimes which may be good to keep In mind without worrying too much about it.

Thanks-felt like I’d wasted the police’s time but they were great.

I would go back to the supplying dealer. They should be able to get a plate quickly and fix it. If it was put on with screws, which it certainly should have been, there will be screw holes. The XC40 number plate is fixed to a backing plate which is then fixed to the bumper.

When I picked up new quashqi 4 years ago my number plate fell off when leaving dealership they put it back on with pads they said could not use screws as it would invalidate the warranty on bodywork.

What happened in the end then, woke up this morning and mine has got a crack in it where the screw is and was hanging off on that side. Don’t wanna claim on insurance, can I just get it replaced at Halfords? I think they need some documentation from motability?

Definitely not an insurance claim @Josie  A motorfactors such as Eurecarparts cheaper than Halfords.

However they are likely to want proof the car is yours (see link) so the dealer who you had the car off might be the easiest option as they have you on the system!

Order a new number plate on eBay. I think they are about £16/£20 a set. No paperwork required.
