Today I been in contact with a Mercedes Motability dealer asking if they expected to return to the Motability car listings, the answer I got was that they have been told that the new car backlog could take up to 12 months to clear. So I took that as a no!

Ordered A Class A200d beginning of June was given a handover date of 31st October.

Dealer ignored all contact with me when emailing asking for an update and was always busy on the phone when I called, so I went in beginning of September and was assured that this will be arriving January next year and the order will be being built last week.

Emailed to get confirmation that the build has been placed with the factory and was told that they won’t be able to place any orders until April next year and then when they do we’d be looking at a 10 – 12 month build time, meaning the A class ordered in June 2021 can expect to arrive Feb – April 2023!!!

Needless to say I have cancelled my order and will be purchasing a car. The automotive industry is a shambles at the minute with the microchip shortage and dealers are playing down how bad it really is to keep getting orders. Motability is a great scheme and hope to rejoin in a few years when the microchip shortage is all resolved.

Hopefully those of you waiting an eternity for a new Mercedes will be rewarded with a car that has been built to usual Mercedes standards and hasn’t been rushed through to keep the numbers up. I’ve just had a Mercedes GLB 220d AMG-Line Premium on hire for a week and frankly it’s been a nightmare.

On three days the digital instrument cluster wouldn’t illuminate so I had no idea what speed I was doing. The Sat Nav took me to completely the wrong place one day and I had to use Google Maps on my phone to get to where I was going (same postcode inputted). The MBUX system didn’t operate smoothly, it either had a lag or jumped too far ahead. For reasons that I couldn’t work out I kept changing the radio station when I didn’t want to. The icing on the cake was one day when the car decided to go into safe / limp home mode and wouldn’t go above 15mph until I used kick down. Have to say that I was incredibly relieved when the BMW was returned yesterday!

Umm that sounds awfull. Good guy how old mas the mercedes on hire ??

I’ve been emailed by mercedes customer service UK based in Netherlands ?, He was very attentive and said he had started an enquiry into where my car is ?, Of course I know of all delays with factory order cars etc.

Ordered CLA PREM plus with driver assistance,  , my dealer attentive but doesn’t know when any cars are to be delivered so he never has any info to pass on, .

It would be helpfull to have approx delivery date, maybe then more may cancell .

Just wait for time being ?????

Hi Micky. It was a 21 reg and had just 3,000 miles on the clock. When Europcar picked its up I told them that it needs to be taken to a Mercedes dealership for a check over and probable software update. However, as this would result in down time and a loss of rental income I suspect that it’s still being sent out to customers.

Ahh I see Glos guy worrying.

This guy from mercedes UK in Holland said he was looking into my order ?? And mercedes Hungary are building cars as from beginning of October ,it’s a pathetic game, I have decided ok with my terrific Mondeo ST sport at present ,let CLA run until get it or told next year ,and then ???.

Everything I read about CLA ,everything owner Experiance has been good.

But looks like you got crap rental car, and rentals do get hammered. Stay safe.
