Coming up to 2 years with the car now. All in all, quite easily the most disappointing car I’ve had the misfortune of driving!

The niggles are far too numerous to go into in detail. Save to say, there are many lol.

First and foremost, the ownership experience has been wrecked by just how poorly executed the whole car is. The software onboard is about as reliable as a snakes bowel movement. 8 – I repeat – 8 recalls in a two year period simply isn’t acceptable. It will be back in tomorrow for a new battery ( not the EV one).

The ride is terrible. almost like being on a trampoline doing 50MPH.

For a massive car it’s very cramped inside for the occupants. Boot not very capacious.

The driver safety features are fiendish and intrusive to the point of being downright dangerous. Every one has to be disengaged on every occasion upon starting. Cue every CX60 owner sitting blankly for a full minute whilst sifting the menus. Computer says can’t be switched off or setting stored in memory.

Positives – frugal when running on ICE ( bearing in mind it’s 340BHP!) HUGELY POWERFUL but completely unable to put the power through the wheels without scrabbling. Good job I drive like Reginald Molehusband.

For a £55K car it’s hopeless. To think I traded my daughter’s 12 year old up turned pram Fiat 500 for it!!

Anyone thinking of getting one – DON’T. There are many better cars available.

I take it you viewed and test drove the vehicle checked it meet your needs ?

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.

It really isnt until you,ve had a car for a couple of years that you really get to know it. But the advances in equipment and Tech since 2020 has been huge. I guess they are still sorting out the niggles.

Hopefully your next car is better. Thats the best thing aout the scheme, changing vehicle every 3 years.

Very interesting in several respects. Firstly it’s good to read a review after 2 years ownership. Most people review after a few days or weeks, when everything is new and exciting but the long term niggles have yet to fully materialise. Secondly, it’s nice to have a balanced review, as most seem to just focus on the positives. Finally, and most importantly, it sounds like we dodged a bullet!

The CX-60 was on our final shortlist and we liked the interior of the mid range model (less so the top spec one – whilst we like pale interiors, I hated the wood and cloth elements which clashed IMHO). The exterior is bland but the size appealed. We discounted it even before a test drive as the reviews were consistently quite poor. The other thing that irritated me was that some essential option packs, which had been bundled with the car initially, were dropped and the AP without them was excessive for a car that I didn’t consider to be ‘desirable’. I’d pay that for  a decent BMW, but none existed (other than the 330e, but that would have cost over £10k with options added).

I’ve seen one or two since and wondered if we made the wrong decision, as the Tucson PHEV we eventually went with is underwhelming, but it sounds as though we made the right decision amongst a mediocre selection!

We are just over 24 month into our Suzuki Across 36 month lease 100% love it, can’t see me paying £6,999 AP now with the 36 lease restriction, In May 2026 when Mobility issue the 3 month notice I just hoping we can extend the lease another 24 months without too much fuss, lets see what happens.

PHEV are becoming horrifically expensive for quite basic models, EV AP at present are quite reasonable, however with the new governments grant scheme will this push the residual prices down on the lower end of the used EV market ? knock on effect increase lease loses resulting in higher EV AP

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.

I remember well you being interested in the Cx60 at the same time Glos Guy!

At the time I had the choice of 1 vehicle on the scheme that had a  towing capacity of 2.5t. We were willing to accept a few niggles to accommodate that. Not the plethora of obvious foibles the car has!

Things never stay the same and circumstances inevitably change. We px’d the caravan for a motorhome we’ve had adapted for our daughter’s needs. So the love was never really there for the CX60 even though we really wanted to love the ‘Kardashian Wagon’.

We’re currently looking for an alternative that can comfortably take 3 adults, 2 of whom are disabled, and 2 crates for support dogs. That choice won’t be anything available on the scheme I’m afraid. VW Multivan LWB, ID Buzz LWB, MB V Class or VW Kombi/Shuttle/Caravelle are the only alternatives.

We are lucky, in that, after 10 years of fighting a medical negligence case, we can now fund the purchase of a vehicle that is perfect for her needs. Not something negotiated on the back of a fag packet by people in the thrall of the Daily Mail.

When you really scrutinise the cost effectiveness, the Scheme is good value. But I can get a £60K Multivan for £230 a month, admittedly with a £19K deposit. The real value of the Scheme is the insurance, maintenance, tyres and peace of mind. That used to be baked in to the Scheme. My Dad had his first Motability car back in the early 1980’s when it was beyond brilliant. Each iteration sees worse service driven by cost considerations and greed. I view the cost of living crisis rather as a cost of greed crisis, with no end to paying more for a lot less.

Anyway, until the termination we’re stuck with the unfathomable CX60!

                  Oscarmax,

Our other car is an Ioniq 5 – an entirely different beast to the CX60. Really is a joy to drive, economical, fast and engaging.

However, absolutely brilliant locally and close to unbeatable. Take it on holiday though – totally different due to the abysmal EV charging system this country has. NEVER had a public charger give more than 100W charging so using a fraction of the charging rate. 15 minute charges become an hour, probably because Costa have put a spanner in the charger to eke two mochachino’s out if you! That’s if you find a working charger! Scotland – forget it.

Love the car, detest the plonkers who charge 20x the October rate and then throttle it back!!

@BackCountryBob If either of the disabled people are full time wheelchair users, and you need a substantial adaptation, presumably you are aware of the VAT exemption on new private purchases, which covers base price, cost of options and even maintenance costs throughout the entire ownership period?

As were also tow a 1500kg caravan a fully EV is a no no especially as you point the the extorinate prices of public chargers, not sure about reliability or availability as I avoid them.

We have solar panels and battery plus a Podpoint 7kWh EV charger, we charge up both the battery and PHEV off peak, so for us a PHEV makes sense.

If you dislike the CX60 so much I would just kick it back to Mobility and take the £250 hit, otherwise you are wasting £77.05 per week over the next 12 months.

Yes mate, though you can only have one VAT exemption on one vehicle in any 3 year period. The motorhome is VAT exempt and fortunately saved us nearly £50K! It really is a fantastic piece of kit. Doesn’t compensate for the life changing injury or the past 10 years of torture fighting the Medical Defence Union. But, a lovely thing to have in your life with a wonderful daughter who confounded medical opinion.

That would be the sensible thing to do but VW are saying 9 months for a new Multivan. Nearer the time we might do just that and make do with my Wife’s Ioniq. After 10 years of social isolation it’s good to be able to spend time apart lol!

Sounds fantastic. It appeals to me but unfortunately my wife is far too bad now to even entertain one. Even existing at home is beginning to be a real challenge 😞

We were fortunate Alice was only 18 when the brain injury occurred and has improved beyond all expectation. It’s the Wife and I that’s taken the toll and on that downward spiral. Just nice to be able to get back some of the 10 years we’ve missed out on!

Looked at the CX60 not long after it joined the scheme and the packs were still available – loved the interior.

Booked a 24hr test drive and took it back after 4-5 hours, as it wallowed over bumps and made me feel sick, especially at higher speeds, certainly had the Citron vibe!

At the time of looking, there were already recalls for the suspension and sound insulation, but after reading the forums, I decided agains’t and jumped out of the frying pan into the fire with the Tucson PHEV!

I understand Mazda got to grips with it eventually and todays CX60, is different to when they first came out.

As it says in my signature below – very unhappy with this car. Returned on mechanical grounds.

Weeks after we received the vehicle,  excited, we drove to the Continent.  In Germany suddenly the infotainment screen started flickering and then at some point died completely together with the small one. So we had to use mobile phone as a satnav etc. Once I have realised the pattern, when it occurred (my wife’s phone plugged in using the cable and my phone transmitting Google map to the infotainment system.

Then the EV charging didn’t open,  then driver’s seat stopped sliding back when the car was off (one of the reasons we took the car, so I can conveniently get in and out). And very many other issues.

In my mind Mazda were too fast to bring their first PHEV to the market- they had to polish it more. I want to believe now it is much more reliable.  We had Mazda 5, 3, and 323 (oh, yes!) and none ever saw a garage.

I was actually interested in one of these before ordering the Enyaq. Went to the dealership, sat inside then some idiotic salesman came across and suggested that I couldn’t afford it. Made my mind up in an instant. I should go and thank him really, well I would if it wasn’t for the fact he got sacked.
