Got a phone call from the dealership on Friday I can pick up my car this Friday. Ordered in July so I suppose not to bad. It’s the 1.5 diesel auto st line X. Picked this car because I have a under 25 on the insurance. And I noticed they have been removed from the list. If I was ordering now I don’t know what I would do no suitable cars left. Lower back is shot so I do need a car which I can step into and I do need my daughter to drive me around when pain is to much.  So lucky for next 3 years.

Well done on getting your new car Gareth. That’s far quicker than our local dealer predicted when we looked at the Kuga earlier this year.

Your comment above sums up how many of us feel now. Like you, we’ve recently managed to get a car we are happy with (now removed) but there’s nothing on the scheme now that even remotely appeals.

I have the ST Line X (2.od AWD) and am really happy with it 9000 miles and 7 months in.

Comfortable and reliable with loads of room. Heated seats and wheel are fantastic.

That’s the exact model (auto) that we had on our shortlist. Out of interest, what sort of mpg are you getting?

Comfortably around 50mpg on a longer run – normal driving. 55 ish if being more careful and around 42-45 around town depending on driving style.

Thanks. That’s certainly much better than our previous VW Tiguan 190PS 4WD Diesel, which only averaged about 38mpg.

Much to our surprise (as we didn’t order it for the fuel economy) our new petrol BMW X1 2.0i 4WD auto is returning around 42mpg on average and can easily reach 50mpg on a long run. I find it amazing how engine refinement, performance and fuel economy can be so wildly different between cars that, on paper, have near identical power outputs.

I saw you mention that in another thread. I’d be delighted as you are with that and it might persuade me to have a look at that if indeed it returned to the scheme for my next car.

My last Kuga averaged around 25-27mpg. A horribly underpowered 1.5 petrol auto.

My Kuga 2021  2.0 AWD 8 speed auto ecoblue titanium x edition, returns 26mpg doing very very short urban hops in local speed hump land.

I had the engine checked out because it makes a terrible clatter like a hammer drill when driving after a cold start, was told nothing to worry about its a transit engine. Its even worse now with really cold weather, saw the amber snowflake light up on the digital dash today for the first time.

I think the seats are out of a transit too with fancy materials and stitching, they are very very firm with virtually no side or seat bolstering.

I fear that your issue MickC is that the type of driving that you do means that you shouldn’t have chosen a diesel. Modern diesels have diesel particulate filters that clog up unless the engine and exhaust get hot frequently. You say that your journeys are ‘very very short’ and low speed, hence the 26mpg. These are exactly the sort of journeys that diesels don’t like. To be fair, most diesels that I have driven (with the exception of BMW diesels) can sound a bit agricultural when cold, but tend to quieten down once warm.

If you wanted a Kuga, given the type of journeys that you do, you would have been far better to have gone with the PHEV version, which gets very good reviews. You would be doing all of your journeys on electric and have virtually no petrol bills. It would also be very quiet and not have an issue with your short low speed journeys. Obviously you would be stuck with the same seats though. It might be worth having a conversation with Motability and explaining that you ordered a diesel which you now realise was a mistake and see if they will let you change early. They seem to be quite understanding in these situations.

                                  Hi GG.

Had a Mondeo 180 previous to the Kuga and it was quite as a lamb on starting/driving in cold both euro 6/6.2 engines and you could never smell any fumes out back.I used to worry about the DPF but the Mondeo never had any problems and it used to do similar journeys. On trip computer 1 which has been left as is from day 1 of ownership the mpg is showing 35.4.

I am going to let Ford have another listen to the engine (now weather is getting quite chilly) i;m going to suggest they keep it overnite parked outside and then let them do a test drive from cold and let them hear the racket,it even holds revs longer and higher driving off from cold, which i know is bad for any engine.

Only had car 6 months, next car will preferably be EV,will see how fuel and electric costs evolve over the next couple of years before making choice.

Well got my car yesterday very very impressed with comfort and all the whistles and bells the car comes with. Just one problem hand over was very slow nobody’s fault but just the red tape to do maybe mobility should look into a easier way of doing the forms. Sitting in a chair for about and hour really hurt my back (main problem for disability is hip and lower back pain). Could not enjoy the car yesterday. But we have planned Sunday lunch and a drive in the country on Sunday.  One more thing I have never had warmer heated seats in a car which really does take some pain away from driving. Will put a review up sometime soon. But anybody looking a big car this is the one to go for so far

Well done Gareth. It’s such good news in the current climate just to hear that someone has received their new car, let alone that they are so pleased with it. I couldn’t be without heated seats either! Enjoy the car.
