Very expensive to run unless you go for the diesel.

Got to say, the Compass is a big heavy lump to be powered by a 1.4 petrol. I think you would become intimately acquainted with the staff at your local petrol station!

Most of the journo’s reviews go for the diesel powered options.

I sat in one at the Jeep dealers and was reasonably impressed at first glance. However upon looking closer, the trim was mis-matched in parts, a few interior panels were badly fitted – one under the steering column even fell off – and this was in the static demo in the dealer’s showroom! I think the Quality Control on them (made in India) leaves a lot to be desired.

However, if one wanted a reasonably priced medium to large SUV with a rugged ‘go anywhere’ 4WD system (as opposed to some of the part time AWD systems on most SUV’s) this would be a decent option, particularly in its ‘Trailhawk’ guise.

the renegade trailhawk or ltd is on my list for next car, the compass is bigger than i need.like others have said if you do some miles then the deisel would be my choice.

The compass isn’t actually much different in size it’s only 15cm longer and 2cm wider. It’s also 5cm smaller in height than the renegade. Will be handing our renegade over next month for a limited compass auto.

When comparing specs we felt we got a lot more of what we wanted with the compass than with the renegade. It would cost about £1500 extra to add some of the extras the compass comes with to a limited or trailhawk renegade such as power folding mirrors, keyless entry, rear backup camera, automatic park assist, blind spot detection. The main thing the renegade has over the compass is the LED headlights as the compass still uses halogen projector head lamps.

One problem with the compass is if you want a particular colour as Jeep only allow ordering from current stock, dealers aren’t allowed to make a factory order.

Well researched about the headlamps Jordan.

Jeep are very misleading on their website. They state that the Limited Compass has ‘LED Headlamps’ but when you delve deeper it’s only the DRL’s. The actual headlamp is halogen. Naughty that.

How any manufacture is still using halogen is beyond me.

? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?

I had both a good sit in a Compass and a test drive in one at yesterday’s Motability One Big Day event at Harrogate. The display one I sat in and the tester were both well put together and I was very impressed.

I totally concur with Jordan’s post about the standard equipment on the Compass Limited vs the Renegade Trailhawk. The Compass easily wins on specification compared to the Renegade, barring the headlights, but as I have always had halogens, I can live with them a few more years.

Doing the sums, the Compass 2.0 diesel Auto 4×4 Limited with Pentagon’s current £300 cashback and the £600 GCB, makes the ‘cost to change’ a net £193 (AP £1093 minus £600GCB minus £300 cashback = £193. A bit of a no brained really.

Overall, I was very impressed with the Compass. It is a decent sized SUV with a proper 4×4 system. As I live high in the Pennines, a 4×4 is really a necessity during a harsh winter, as the lesser spotted snow ploughs and gritters are becoming even more lesser spotted.

I am hoping to have an extended test drive next week to properly put it through its paces.

I went to the Harrogate Motability event yesterday as well.

The Compass Limited they had on static display there was screwed together a lot better than the one I sat in at a dealership last week. If they are all of the same quality as at Harrogate then yes, it could well be a good SUV to look at when the time comes.

Also got to agree it comes with a lot of kit that is missing off the Trailhawk Renegade. Just a shame corners have been cut with the halogen headlights, but like you, that is what I am used to as well.

i like the look of both jeeps and prefer the ltd spec as it has white/cream leather which i like for some reason and the renegade has a better variety of paint colours i like the yellow or omaha orange.

strange i know but after a series of dark coloured cars and the current preponderance of silver grey variations that seem to abound i feel like a change and its only for 3 years lol.
