in a way i am more fortunate than most in that i am on wpms so my ap is slightly more affordable.

but that is negated by needing an automatic and a higher seat as i cant get down into a saloon.

i currentl have a mini countrman cooper s auto which had an ap of £715. the only countryman on the scheme is over £2700. not a chance of me affording that.

so the 501 on the scheme reduces to 297 when i specify auto,if i exclude diesel as i dont do the mileage it goes to 261,specify an ap below £1500 and its 154 and finally specify mpv/suv it goes down to 53.

then remove the ones i dont like like the mg’s and the bayon which isnt really an suv.

but add in the mokka which is a medium car apparently not an suv.

so yes there is a choice of:

mokka    arona     kamiq      c3 aircross    crossland    captur    t-cross   vitara    juke     puma    t-roc

chr         ateca       ds3 crossback        qashqai      arkana    karoq

a grand total of 17.  none of which scream buy me.

but i have to confess most would do the job of getting me from a to b.

the ds dealers are too far for comfort and of the rest only the mokka and the juke remotely appeal.

      am i missing something?

I was holding out for Oct and see what gives, but i am not holding my breath on it.

We also did the 2 year extend and that is about to end, with what is available and the crazy high AP’s we are now looking to go the finance route, 17 years nrly on the scheme and for the majority of it has been a pleasant experience, gone are the days of over 2k cars to choose from  down to what little over 500? Think the question should be asked that is it really fit for purpose now?

Unfortunately we tow a 1500kg caravan there is nothing on the scheme that suit our particular needs, hopefully we will be allowed at the end of our 3 year lease in June 2023 to extend for another 2 years ?

The alternative is we sell and give up caravanning or leave the scheme ?

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

Why are you charging to 90% & not going under 10%? I charge to 100% every night & I don’t usually let it get low but its there if needed

I’m a bit stuffed at the moment. My ZS EV is knackered been in 3 weeks & they still don’t know what’s wrong with it first thru suspected a faulty charge controller a £3000 part (under warranty of course) but now they’re not sure again.

After moaning like hell the dealer got me out of a Grandkad 1.2 petrol & into an EV courtesy car as £200 petrol in a fortnite just not sustainable. So now Motability have said I can wait or cancel & reorder as its been 28 days off the road.

At 470 litres of boot space plus if you removed the floor & foam the boot is cavernous unfortunately there’s nothing remotely close that’s affordable.

The only suitable vehicle that can hold an emotional support dog plus mobility scooter and/or luggage is a berlingo at £2500 AP which I highly doubt motability are going to fund for me.

Even if you look at hybrids there’s nothing affordable & straight petrol/diesel there’s nothing of a decent size.

At the moment looks like my only “choice” is to see if my car ever gets fixed or maybe I can persuade the dealer to swap my car for their courtesy car as they’re planning to sell it when I return it

Totally feel for you Stevie and in your postion the options are limited, dunno what car you have but i am guessing there’s nothing similar on the scheme thats suitable or at a price you can justify leasing.

I do not regret my decsion, but it is what was best for us and like yourself it might be best for you. I have seen this slowly happening over the years of being on the scheme and it’s becoming less and less viable. Not because you’ll get cheaper over a 3 year term else where but for many other reason that are also important.

For me also I’m not doing the mileage I was and I might only do 25k over the next 5 years and that’s a waste on the scheme where before i was doing close to or over 40k over the 3 years.

99.99% they will allow you to extend rather than leaving the scheme, but after the 5 years they won’t care one bit about you being mobile and your needs.

I hate caravans he he only kidding, but you should not be thinking to give it up as stuff on the scheme or ev’s will not do the job.

Life is for living and it’s obvious you love the caravanning as per you many post about it on this forum. Maybe though it might be better to look at other alternatives sooner rather than later and if something looks good of the scheme then jump on it.

Failing that you could just get something to tow the caravan and a small ev for everyday stuff and stay on the scheme, as you do have offroad parking and the ability to charge at home at lower costs and the money you do save would help towards the costs of a tank just to tow the van. All might change moving forward as to the costs of EV’s but one things for sure with policies of 2030/2035 options on the scheme will be limited and many cars will not be on the scheme as they are just way to high in price to be and many manufacturers will concentrate on those premium models and maybe even drop those below. Like audi plan to do.

@richard the VAUXHALL ASTRA SPORTS TOURER 1.2 TURBO 130 DESIGN 5DR has a boot space of 597 litres.

Obviously it’s not a suv or an ev but maybe worth a look at. Cheapest is a manual £349 and in the auto £949.

or maybe the nissan QQ AS it has 504 litres, the question is though are you going to be better off paying a higher ap for an ev over a pertol car.

I’d look at it as if i was off the scheme and if the maker/dealer cannot fix the car what then, what are they going to do to resolve the issue?

Maybe you could apply for a grant and see. You say you spent £200 on fuel in 2 weeks, that’s £5200 a year. 15.6k over 3 year’s, so it would pay you back to spend more and get an EV over an ice or hybrid.

I do understand it’s all a shock and leaves you as you say stuffed but it is what it is and only a few options are open. Personally I’d put pressure on mg as either way you gonna be in a hire car till it’s sorted one way or another, What ev did they give you? is it liveable with, till they solve the problem or provide a replacement.

                      @Stevie,

I was in the same position a few months ago. After 2 1/2 years of problems my SEAT was inspected by the RAC who recorded several faults. The car went to the main dealers but they could not find the faults in their workshop. 3 months – yes, 3 months it was in the garage before MB decided that they would reclaim the vehicle and place me in a hire car for the remainder of the lease.

Whilst seemingly a good position, every time there is a minor issue with car e.g. needs a service. The car needs to go back and I have to push for a suitable vehicle.  Whilst the SEAT was in the garage I had a Toyota people carrier which drank fuel and ad blue. This was then replaced by a Merc GLB quite nice but a lot smaller than the scheme vehicle. Certainly can’t get a dog and scooter in. Plus each time the vehicle changes I have to get it valeted to remove any trace of dog hair.

What I am going to do at the scheme end is still a worry as I need a biggish auto SUV, which as well all now are disappearing off the scheme or take 12 months to arrive.
