Of course, but not many people like the limitations of RWD in bad weather no one wants to be stuck at the side of the road. also the power the AWD drive brings make it completely better to drive

We faced that choice – Premium AWD drive or Ultimate RWD. When it comes down to it – how many times in this country are you likely to be stuck in snow deep enough for the AWD to be useful? Once in a decade perhaps.

We’ve moved on’t Moors and really the best option are good quality winter tyres which are unbelievable not just in snow. All season tyres are a compromise.

In fact people with AWD think they’re unbeatable in snow or ice. They may be better but more than 2 tonnes of car going downhill has a lot less stopping ability on summer tyres than almost any car with winters on!

It was funny to see the Hoorah Henry’s in their Range Rover piled in a snow bank in the Alps. Never saw any 30 year old Fiat Pandas in there lol!

Over 70% of Iconic5 sales are for the rear wheel drive car.

I think your sales figures are wrong, but regardless as I said not many people like to be stuck in almost 2 ton vehicle in bad weather just because of RWD, also in more normal conditions in the wet which we have a lot all RWD can be very skittish.

Then add in the professional reviewers stating the AWD is phenomenal compared to the RWD.

There is no point in us debating this. as its not meant to belittle the OP choice, but sadness that the AWD did not make the scheme in Ultimate trim.

                              wmcfourm,

The slight increase in range of the RWD is what swayed it for us and probably the majority you illustrate.

Still, whether AWD or RWD, we look forward to picking my Wife’s up tomorrow. We’ll test it out on a run to the NEC for the Motorhome Show. Just got free tickets via CoachbuiltGB and travelling to see if we can get a motorhome adaptation for our Daughter.

Also found out they have a new GigaHub for Ev’s with more than 180 chargers, 30 of which are ultra fast. Should be a good experience all round.

                                  Richard

Most people in bad weather follow advice and stay at home, those that don’t how many are prepared? How many become a burden on others needing rescue or blocking roads.

Regardless of 4wd or not unless you know how drive it too then you’re still not going to win. We live in a valley and you know the most vehicles I see stick in bad weather here? Range Rovers, every time.

Also 4wd/awd doesn’t do a lot of good traditionally of course if you don’t have a decent diff.

There’s far more to good control in winter than 4wd, tyres, whether roads treated, driving style, snow type, ice type. As for a 2 ton vehicle moving, 4wd is for moving the car not stopping it surely equally important is your safety gadgets like ABS, EBD, ESP whatever acronyms are in use.

Really don’t think someone celebrating their choice of car is the place to raise this debate it’s almost belittling someone’s choice whether that was meant or not and it’s that that leads to people not posting.

                                        Wow didn’t expect that,

was actually offered shooting star grey with tech pack this was an ultimate he was knocking £750 off I agreed and went to sign but it was AWD so not on scheme I was gutted.

where I live the week a year we have snow I think I’ll stay indoors,

I don’t want AWD no use to me but if you do I’m happy for you.

Obviously you have never driven a 2.8i Capri?

Nor have I ever thought motoring journo’s were pro’s and who are over excited with the additional power.

Whats worth remembering is unlike a traditional ICE, an EV has 50:50 weight distribution and lets face it were not talking your average Landrover or Land cruiser but a normal road going vehicle with summer tyres but, yeh for traction AWD in dry weather is better.

Put a pair of cross climate or winter tyres on the rears it will perform much better than AWD, put a full set of winter tyres on it will blow the AWD out the water 🙂
