Speedy JamesMaybe I am being optimistic but is anyone else hoping the Electric Kona is coming soon?
Ideally for me it would need electric seat adjustment and possibly be fitted with a small wheelchair hoist?
This got me thinking, has anyone fitted a hoist to an electric car yet?

Hyundai has made the Kona electric available to motability since it’ induction but I assume with manufacturers not needing to heavily discount Electric and Hybrid due to popularity the figures don’t work out. Let’s hope Motability makes some consesions come Q1
December 22, 2019 at 2:03 pm #101035The e kona would be a great addition to the scheme, 250 miles on a charge reasonable size what’s not to like.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.December 22, 2019 at 4:44 pm #101050Pretty good except it’s not so practical towards mobility gear.
December 22, 2019 at 5:46 pm #101062That looks pretty decent.

Speedy JamesI went to look at the DS crossback electric. Even smaller boot.

RhodgieThe Kona or the Niro would suit me fine… great range & tech ?
JS you say the Kona electric has been available to motability since its introduction but I’ve never seen it on the scheme?
December 22, 2019 at 6:34 pm #101075
Speedy JamesYes, Js, can you explain your remark fully please I didn’t quite understand
December 23, 2019 at 1:36 pm #101138The manufacturers make a car available to Motability but if the discount they offer is not good enough when motability applies its method of working out AP etc then the vehicle may not come on as the AP would exceed the ceiling allowed etc.
December 23, 2019 at 7:44 pm #101193My son’s gf has a petrol Kona that looks good. Unfortunately the boot is far too small for me, folding manual wheelchair wouldn’t fit.
December 23, 2019 at 8:46 pm #101199That was my point when you look at the actual dimensions of the boot and the electric version is a lot smaller than the normal one, not great for mobility equipment.

Speedy JamesThanks for the explanation Js. Does anyone know if the electric only Kia Niro has a bigger boot than the Kona given that the boot appears too small on the Kona electric.
December 24, 2019 at 11:54 am #101235I attended a lecture about Electric Cars and was told the reason for delays was that VW placed an order for batteries so large that it starved the rest of the industry, apparently they were worried the competition were stealing a march so they threw a spanner in, giving them time to further develop their Electric range of vehicles. The Electric Kona was withdrawn from sale for most of 2019.

OlpkYes the E Niro is quite a bit bigger than a Kona

RhodgieThe electric Niro and Kona were held back to let them get rid of a backlog of ICE cars they had in stock, I suspect VW were doing the same.
From 2020 all manufacturers need to reduce the average co2 emissions of the range of their cars so makes sense to get rid of the fossil fueled ones first before this euro rule is enforced.
Stand by for a large increase in the number of BEVs, hybrids and very small petrol engines coming in 2020
December 31, 2019 at 1:41 pm #101796The Hyundai Ioniq hybrid has a massive boot but I’m thinking the fully electric version has a compromised boot ?

David ChuggSo the Kona electric IS now available on Motability and I went to view yesterday. I am seriously considering getting this for the next car and the boot looks to be okay as long as it is a manual chair that can fold then I think it’ll either work with one wheel removed ( or definitely with both off). A rigid frame chair might also fit as boot depth at floor level is 70cm but decreases to maybe 50cm at rear seat top.
Ioniq has more rear boot space, but the opening has less height so in my view that would probably be more difficult.
Interested to know if anyone has taken the plunge yet and what they think

David ChuggI should say I am not the largest of wheelchair users, so for taller/bulkier persons I can see that the boot depth may be very limiting. I also should say that the parcel shelf would need to be removed ( which is the first thing `I do with a new motability car ).

IanI am waiting to see if the Kia e-niro comes onto the scheme. It has a bigger boot. And you can store away the parcel shelf
