brydoA big part of the government’s plan to get rid of the virus, or at least contain it, is the contact tracing app. How many forum members would download it?
Not everyone has, or would want, a smart phone but one is required to participate.
There are valid security concerns but they appear to be minimal, privacy concerns are also an issue but in the grand scheme of things should these concerns be put to the side for the greater good?
I will be downloading the app as soon as possible and, as many on the forum are vulnerable, I would urge those who can to do the same.

BrydoFile28 will you use the government’s app when it comes out instead or will you run both?
May 6, 2020 at 12:42 pm #112921
martinoi dont know if i would down load it
May 6, 2020 at 2:53 pm #112928I am totally locked down, but I will still download the app to support the effort to trace and isolate. We have rightfully grumbled when the government has been slow or in some cases failed to act during Covid19, so I think it’s right to support actions that have a clear health and safety purpose.

MikeWhen can I download the app on my phone ?
May 6, 2020 at 5:15 pm #112930
brydoIts going through a trial on the Isle of Wight just now Mike but if all goes well it should be widely available this month.
May 6, 2020 at 6:30 pm #112935It has no right to go well. Other countries are using an Android/Apple app which does not write all your data to a central server and works in the background when you phone is on standby. The Govt app is said to breach data protection rules, only works when the phone is active and drains the battery.

BrydoWigwam I hope the info you are posting is accurate, posting fake news can cost lives.
May 6, 2020 at 9:14 pm #112937
MikeWigwam do you know that for sure ?
May 6, 2020 at 9:16 pm #112938May 6, 2020 at 9:28 pm #112939
AD1Don’t know if it fake news or not but I read an article very similar to what Wigwam has said.
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/05/05/uk_coronavirus_app/
It’s down to the individual if they want to download the app or not, but the article makes interesting reading.
Thanks
May 6, 2020 at 9:34 pm #112940The register is pretty dependable.
May 6, 2020 at 10:23 pm #112941Goverment policy can cost lives and has in the past, now and in the future… Also Nothing in life is free except the air we breathe…
Personally I should have my 2 kids in my sight and never sleep 24/7 as one died, in his room at home, where you think they would be safe. 1 out of 3 / 33.33% of my kids gone.. between lunch and dinner.. Two sisters without an older brother, but would that be fair on them no it would not..life goes on..
If i go out and have an accident my kids will be without a parent, should i stay in, no i should’nt.
5% of ppl who get covid 19 die that’s from those tested and hospitalised, I believe. Could be alot less and The london borough of Newham has the highest Covid-19 death rate, a study has shown the borough has an age-standardised mortality rate of 144.3 deaths involving the virus per 100,000 people, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). lets look at that 144/100k = 0.00144.
So no i won’t be downloading the app..
All this info i heard on the bbc and Personally i think we all being railroaded by the anti capitalist, global warmimg activists the ones who modelled 500k deaths but then have their girlfriend who married round as they know it’s all scaremongering.. Next thing is we’ll all be on lockdown for anything that has a slight risk..
The common cold which there’s no vaccine for, oh what is covid.. lets see
You know the drill. Your throat feels scratchy, you start sneezing and coughing, and pretty soon you’re in the grip of a nasty cold. To add insult to injury, all that big-time misery is from a tiny invader — a living thing called a virus.
And it’s not just one you need to dodge. There are more than 200 that can lay you low.
It’s likely that someday you’ll have a close encounter with one of these types:
Rhinovirus
Coronavirus
RSV and parainfluenza
There are also a lot of viruses that doctors haven’t identified. About 20%-30% of colds in adults are caused by these “unknown” bugs.
How and When They Strike
Cold viruses have a lot in common, but each type has its own style, too.Rhinovirus. This bunch is most active in early fall, spring, and summer. They cause 10%-40% of colds. You’ll feel plenty miserable when you catch one, but the good news is they rarely make you seriously sick.
Coronavirus. These tend to do their dirty work in the winter and early spring. The coronavirus is the cause of about 20% of colds. There are more than 30 kinds, but only three or four affect people.
RSV and parainfluenza. These viruses cause 20% of colds. They sometimes lead to severe infections, like pneumonia, in young children.
Pretty much when we get a cold we don’t go see the oldies in the family, as they both have underlieing conditions and any cold could give them pneumonia and sepsis..
Plus they not testing most people and one can self diagnose..So many think they’ve had it already but have they or not that is the question..
Plus some say if you have a cold you will you test postive for the test they doing.. some say yes you will.. thats why pablo dybla some footballer has tested positive 4 times in 6 weeks, i myself have had 3 colds since xmas day, the one in jan was very nasty, was it covid 19 i don’t know..

May 7, 2020 at 8:15 am #112949File28 will you use the government’s app when it comes out instead or will you run both?
will probably run both
as for data issues most of us have apps on our phones that are far more harmful to personal data
i also have a mcaffee program

Selenium greyMay 7, 2020 at 8:30 am #112950Pardon my ignorance I am not really up on all this technology.
I am assuming the APP use the Bluetooth in my iPhone, I also sit and stay in the car, if some one walks past my car with the APP and has the virus, will this handshake with my APP and causing me to isolate unnecessary?
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
May 7, 2020 at 10:07 am #112959We already give so much access to many apps on our phones, I get a regular update from google about where I’ve been over the previous month (most apps require you to agree to data sharing/targeted advertising) so as we are already sharing info with lots of bodies it’s just about the government hanging onto our info after it’s needed.
May 7, 2020 at 10:12 am #112961
BrianWho is behind the app ?
i don’t mean the government, I mean who owns it, which company brought it to the attention of the government and why are they mates of Dominic Cummings.May 7, 2020 at 10:27 am #112963It appears that it is being developed in house by NHSX (the digital arm of the NHS) with support from VMWare Pivotal Labs.
Suggestions today are that it may be dropped in favour of the Android/Apple solution. Govt have asked a Swiss consultancy to look into it.
May 7, 2020 at 10:41 am #112964Oscarmax it is my understanding that the trial is tweaking the data taken/required relating to instances of contact, or perceived contact. It is generally agreed that passing someone in the street is unlikely to infect you, however spending time, more than ten to fifteen minutes, talking to someone without socially distancing could place you in risk. Sitting in your car, for over ten minutes, next to someone who has covid would probably flag up as a contact and you would be alerted.
The exact details of the app, and what and how it works, will become clear in the near future and certainly before its rolled out nationwide.
I suppose it is a choice between saving lives and protecting your info, I would always go for the former but I understand peoples concerns.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.May 7, 2020 at 10:50 am #112965
MikeWell said Brydo
May 7, 2020 at 10:57 am #112966Not really , Brydo. It’s a choice between NHSX spending millions developing an app and it allowing the experts at Android and Apple to do the job.
Given the history of failed NHS IT projects I know who I trust to make something that will save lives.
