How are you proctecting your ioniq 5 from thieves ?

Im supposedly getting my new ioniq 5 on Saturday or Sunday if everything goes to plan, ive seen many ioniq 5 cars driven away online by someone using a key emulator as the ioniq 5 always scans for the keys which makes it extremely easy to steal without even cloning or extending the keys signal.

Just wondered what devices or techniques people are using to stop it ?

Ive got a stop lock elite but these can be cut off and im trying avoid paying out another grand to install drive security posts.

I saw online people saying in valet mode you cannot drive the car away and if you hold open and lock on the key for 4 seconds ot deactivates the handle buttons, not sure how either of these would help someone emulating a key but hoping for some info if anyone knows if either can stop thieves.

I was hoping the my25 would have a revised system to stop the car constantly scanning for keys but asking dealer and searching online can’t find anything out.

      Thanks in advance

@markah2007 the easyiest way is to make sure that you keep your keys in a Farady pouch, including your spare key. Get  into the habit of place your key in the pouch as soon as possible when you have finished with the car.

This what I use, though no longer available, but there are lots of others available.

        I hope this helps

The ioniq 5 can be stolen without using relay theft so the faraday pouch wont help if they have an emulator, they use an emulator on an old modified gameboy and it mimics the key and procuces a matching code and allows them to start the car and remove your bluelink account and drive off in seconds.

The issue is the car constantly scans for keys so Hyundai made their keys go to sleep when stationary to stop relay thefts but it doesn’t help because the key can be emulated

@markah2007 I see. Personally I think your overly worrying about something that may never happen. Try to remember that you do not own the car, motability do. So if you where unfortunately a victim of theft by this means, its no great loss to yourself other than the AP.

You could spend a small fortune on trying to protect an asset that you do not own, is how I think about it.

So securing while at home is one thing, but out and about is an other matter entirely. At best you could use a steering wheel lock.

If they want it they’ll get it, they’ll break into houses just to steal keys 🤷‍♂️

Keep using the stop lock and as it’ll be a little bit harder to steal they’re more likely to move on to the next car 🤞

I hope you guys are right and the stop lock puts them off, hopefully it’ll fit over the spoke of the sterring wheel otherwise its as good as useless.

I know its not my car but the amount of stress and hassle people are having trying to get an ioniq 5 is unbelievable and ive just been granted a miracle and given an n line s for a pretty low AP which will cost £5249 AP to replace if it gets stolen.

I might just invest in drive posts but didn’t want the hassle of yrying to lower and raise them all the time.

Thanks for the input anyway and hopefully someone with an ioniq 5 might tell me if the tricks mentioned above will work such as holding lock and unlock for 4 seconds to deactivate the handles at night

Yesterday we had Mickyarmy worrying about cataltyic converter theft and today car theft?

These are high profile organised gangs, rather than your petty thief. Any manufacturer cars with a key transponder and push button start there’s a key emulator for. The so called gameboy emulator, is middle of the road and costs upwards of £12,500 so if they wany your car, they will have it!

With Hyundai they remove connection from Bluelink by removing the antenna and wires near the SOS button, so have a tracker fitted, if your that worried or hide a couple of air tags, although they aren’t as secure.

Fitting bollards doesn’t help when your parked up away from the house or on holiday.

Just enjoy your car and spend the night in Blackpool driving or getting a tram through the illuminations 🙂

It is not my car and do not worry about it at all.

I.ve always used faraday pouches for both keys, but as Joss says, its a gameboy hack.

If the I5 gets stolen, not my problem.

I will not buy any extra security measures.

Fair points, i think im just going to stick with the stop lock and hide a sansung tag and an apple tag inside and do the trick i found online which apparently works to stop the gameboy emulator attacks.

When using an emulator they touch the door handle to wake the car up and communicate with it but apparently if you hold open and lock until the lights flash 4 times the car locks after 10 seconds and button on the handle no longer wakes the car up, ive been searching today and seen multiple people on the ioniq6 groups confirm they trsted and this works on their car so thats put me at ease.

                      Thanks guys

Could you explain this a bit clearer?  Hold open what? A door? The open button?

I can’t even park outside my house so this would be perfect if it works on mine!

Thing is if they want your car they’ll get it, you might put some kids off with a steering lock but the pros go around with cranes.

I had friends some time back who had bollards etc put in their drive thieves came along middle of the night and lifted the car straight onto a transporter they were gone with it in seconds apparently.

I don’t worry luckily because of where we live (0 crime) and down a private road plus I have gates on the drive but even then if it got nicked i’d be annoyed but it’s not my car so not losing sleep over it.

So you hold the lock and open buttons simultaneously for around 4 seconds until the indicators flash 4 times, then after 10 seconds the car locks and deactivates the keyless entry system so the touch point on the door handle doesn’t wake up the car any longer meaning they cant communicate with it and emmulate a key code

After around 4 seconds one long flash and car locked more or less straight away but, it a Tucson and may or may not work slightly differently or not at all!

Will try method on mums Kona electric when, I next visit.

I only have a NFC emulator, so no way of me telling.

The VW Tiguan has a similar system except you press the lock button on the key and while the mirrors are folding, or within five seconds, you touch the door handle and all comms to the car are shut off so no response to touching the door handle with or without the key present. I lock my car at the end of each day using that method as a habit but just use the normal keyless method while out and about during the day.

The keys also goes to sleep after a set time too.

The recent thing I’ve read in the news as far as car thieves go and there tactics is there finding where locksmiths live, in particular ones that deal with car locks, and breaking into their homes or works vans and stealing the very expensive gear they have for programming a car key. Having just paid for a new car key for my grandson who had lost his one and only key I know how this equipment works and took him seconds to actually unlock the door, with no damage, but did take 30 minutes to program a new key and also delete the old key.

Got my car today, absolutely love it, the highway assist level 2 is unbelievable, set speed to 70 and its steering, braking, changing lanes and accelerating by itself.

Unfortunately the holding of open and lock on the key does nothing on my modelandi cant deactivate the button handles, its strange because it works on the ioniq 6 which has the same new updated key.

Ive put steering lock on and hid both a samsung tag 2 and a apple air tag inside and will just hope for the best.

Hi mate, we are in love with the car.

It looks even better in person, the black tinted window and roof with the black and grey wheels and bumpers just go soo well together.

I had a guy come over to me yesterday whilst i was sitting in a carpark saying how nice the car is and asking what model it is as he hasn’t seen an ioniq 5 like this.

Ive got a few pictures randomly taken but nothing ive specifically taken to show off the sides where  the matte paint had the best effect showing off all the lines and shape.

Ill get a few good ones tomorrow if i get chance, really busy with work, appointments and had nationalgrid, ohme and pro ev messing me around to get the charger installed.

Anyway the car drives soo nice, feels solid and the interior quality is great, n line steering wheel feels soo good and it was quite surprising how it accelerates for a RWD only version.

I was saying to my wife yesterday, its going to be hard to find a car as good as this in 3 years, hopefully we can pick the same again as its soo good
