Earlier today, somebody posted a link to a YouTube video by someone called Geoff Buys Cars titled ‘Why is Motability handing out supercars?’. For some reason, it appears to have been removed.
It’s reminiscent of the Richard Littlejohn article in the Daily Mail many years ago (along the lines of “Motability give out ‘free’ luxury cars”), which resulted in a knee jerk cull of higher end cars, and was the start of the persistent decline in choice of cars on the scheme (from around 5,500 cars at peak to the 1,000 or so that we have today). Thankfully this has a far smaller audience, but has already attracted over 30,000 views and almost 1,000 comments in less than 12 hours (the guy has 155,000 subscribers to his videos).
For those who can’t be bothered to watch it, the summary is that it’s about Motability’s push towards EVs and how unsuitable they are for Motability customers, most of whom are apparently little old grannies who are incapable of handling cars with that power (you get the gist). There’s a ton of tripe in there (he claims that 60% of EVs taken out through Motability have been returned as unsuitable, which is clearly nonsense) and there are interviews with Motability customers who claim that they were ‘forced’ into getting EVs which weren’t suitable for them (again, nonsense – one clearly allowed an unscrupulous dealer to force the issue to meet their targets, and he hadn’t done his research as he lives in a flat and cannot charge at home).
If you value your blood pressure, don’t read all the comments. Sadly, I didn’t take my own advice and allowed my blood to boil and I have taken on and corrected a number of the posters, which I realise is a futile game but made me feel a tad better 😂.

Was me who posted the video Glos Guy.No explanation why it was deleted though?
Subject was related to motorbility so a little baffled why deleted, especially the amount of non related threads/subjects that are allowed .So i wont repost here, as it’s yoir thread and may be deleted again.😀
February 12, 2025 at 10:44 pm #297610@pauld Thanks for alerting us to it. Whilst the guy is talking nonsense, he has 155,000 subscribers and there are 1,000 comments and rising, the vast majority of which are equally ill informed. The amount of ignorance about the scheme is frightening, as is the envy (at best) and hatred (at worst) towards Motability customers. It took me right back to the fateful Richard Littlejohn article.
I have made the point in my comments that whilst I’m not a fan of EVs myself, and don’t agree with the way that Motability are pushing them, nobody is ‘forced’ to have an EV as is claimed in the video.
February 12, 2025 at 11:02 pm #297611No doubt dealers are pushing Motability customers towards EVs as they struggle to meet the bonkers EV mandate. Those not well informed about what to get can be badly guided.
Motability does offer choice but is heavily geared towards EVs as you mentioned @Glos-Guy . Motability foundation not helping from other threads in this forum. The cost of certain cars especially PHEVs are making them unaffordable to many.
I did email Geoff Buys Cars earlier this evening, as I’ve followed him for some time, and have given him my views letting him know I’m actually moving from an EV back to a petrol car. Made the offer of a call but I’m sure his email will be bursting with so many subscribers.

That’s interesting. I’ve not come across him before. The title of the video is pure click bait. Is that his normal style?
It’s a great shame, and something that Motability should address, if dealers are pushing potentially vulnerable customers (as the two in his video clearly were) in to EVs when they are clearly inappropriate for them. If that is an issue then I guess it does need highlighting. My problem is that there are countless inaccuracies in the video and it has fed hundreds and hundreds of ill informed people to make very derogatory comments about the scheme and its customers. One Neanderthal type has just responded to one of my corrective posts by saying that “scum are crawling out from their council houses to justify why they need their ‘free’ cars”. It’s a worry that these idiots are walking amongst us!
February 12, 2025 at 11:34 pm #297616Not his normal style I have to say @glos-guy. He’s a big old Volvo lover – thinking what’s better for the planet is running old cars that have plenty of life left in them. He’s done some entertaining videos with a chap called MacMaster in terms of petrol vs EV (Porsche Taycan) challenges. The MacMaster is definitely one for click bait tiles.
Geoff Buys Cars has done a lot of very insightful videos – stuff you won’t find in the Main Stream Media. I do like his content hence following him.
The point of the Volvo EX30 being faster than a Ferrari Testarossa is a real one and I take the point some won’t know how to handle so much power, but he didn’t need to do the click bait title – as it does misrepresent the scheme.
There are fools and Neanderthals everywhere unfortunately, and many in government as well but that’s another story…
February 13, 2025 at 12:31 am #297618I posted several comments earlier relating to his video and in reply to other users, who just like to make themselves relevant.
Out of the 8-10 comments I posted only 3 maybe four remain, with the ones directed at his video deleted, because they did not fit his narrative fo that video. Now escuse me if I speak out of turn, but to me deleting posters comments is going down a slippery slope and into the gutter!
@Soul777 I personally don’t take your point of the Volvo EX30 being faster than a Ferrari Testarossa is a real one. Unless you are realtively new to driving, the majority of experienced drivers including granny’s, whether disabled or not know how to modulate the go go pedal, whether that be a new car or not. It’s like saying a Ferrari Testarossa ot the EX30 cannot be driven in the city centre, because it can’t be controlled in traffic @30mph or 20mph if in Wales.
February 13, 2025 at 1:18 am #297619@kezo there is a photo of an EX30 in a Morrisons car park which has clearly accelerated at some speed as it’s sitting on another cars bonnet. That was the point Geoff was making. Some, might be very small numbers agreed, struggle to handle that amount of power.
Don’t get me started on (blanket) 20mph zones – lol
February 13, 2025 at 2:18 am #297621My next door neighbour rear-ended my old Tiguan whilst it was parked and he did so with a 15 year old automatic petrol-engined Merc. My car was rammed 5ft through a fence. His foot slipped off the pedal apparently. He was only doing a three point turn in the car park. You don’t need an EV with lots of bhp to cause destruction in a car park let me tell you!
I’m also sick of people saying that we get “free” cars and they almost sound jealous. I would love to swap my health problems and car for whatever it is that they drive, I do not care what it is. In fact if I was healthy I would happily catch the bus and walk everywhere. I’d love to!
Plus these cars actually do cost us an arm and a leg over the 3 year term. It isn’t like we get the car and the PIP is it! We choose one or the other. There are plenty out there who get full PIP but choose not to have Motability cars and spend it on holidays, nights out and gadgets etc. We’re just an easy target.
They also seem to think that the govt/taxpayer make a loss on these cars. They don’t!
February 13, 2025 at 2:44 am #297622Ive just watched the video and stopped watching halfway thru.
Left a pointed comment at his bizaar claim that you can get a EX30 twin motor model on Motability.
And those two being interviewed video’d they are from my neck of the woods Sheffield ….please dont think we are like them….i could’nt stop laughing at the crap they were coming out with.
February 13, 2025 at 7:01 am #297625February 13, 2025 at 7:26 am #297626Just checked and my posts don’t seem to have been removed – yet!
Interesting that a number of posters on there are Motability customers saying that they were pushed very heavily towards EVs by dealers – in many cases when an EV was clearly not suitable for them – using vulnerable Motability customers as a soft route to offloading EVs that private buyers aren’t touching, in order to meet their targets.
On that basis, given the number of Motability customers who are quite vulnerable and likely to be easily led, there is merit in some of the points being raised. However, Geoff Buys Cars loses all credibility with the highly inaccurate click-bait title and the nonsense claims that Motability customers are all old grannies who are incapable of driving.
February 13, 2025 at 8:05 am #297627Like soul777, I have watched many of Geoff’s videos and agree, this is somewhat out of character. I don’t subscribe or respond to YouTube or any of its posters and didn’t watch this episode. He has pointed out the fire risk of Lithium ion batteries, which is covered up by the media and I have been censored/ cancelled on this forum for factual posts. I have no “ skin in the game” as have an ICE car, but burying heads in sand by denying the risks seems foolish. Geoff is on an extended family adventure in Dubai, Sri Lanka and now Malaysia, car spotting and I enjoy most of his down to earth, common sense posts normally from his native Worcestershire. Since it is over a decade since ill health early retirement, I enjoy seeing the staggering motoring developments in countries that I flew to and often hired cars in. India and Sri Lanka were home to millions of morris oxford diesels built under licence. They have moved on a little, but our arbitrary, self harming ZEV targets are a gnat on an elephants backside in the global picture. Like others here, I would love to have avoided pip altogether in life and to still be able to enjoy my free first class tickets and spend winters playing golf etc in Cape Town, Dubai, or mostly Arizona. Fate dictates otherwise as it has to many fellow sufferers. Geoff has clearly had an aberration and damaging miss judgement which plays into the hands of the envious, small minded and ill informed types out there. Take it down and apologise, Geoff,
February 13, 2025 at 8:27 am #297629I will always delete videos from these disruptors, I will not drive traffic and revenue to them.
I have said this repeatedly.
The interviews were posted on a previous video made by another vlogger, whose tone was equally disagreeable. Sadly, by even talking about this we are providing the oxygen it needs to survive.
February 13, 2025 at 8:37 am #297630Regarding comments being deleted from YouTube. A lot of comments are auto deleted instantly. I subscribe to a few innocuous hobby type channels where everyone gets along, I repeatedly have comments auto deleted as soon as I leave them.
February 13, 2025 at 9:33 am #297633So I do watch Geoff buys cars but have not seen the vid as it would like said get my blood pressure up. So is it OK to have a VW polo GTI? or an Abarth like I have and love it and is easy for for me to transfer from my wheelchair to or for someone with walking aids to drive with adaptions there is no difference in having a faster EV it is so out of touch with disabled people having choice. Is ok for Billy Monger to race cars and still have a Motability car. Not sure by the way if he has a MO car but he is entitled to have one as whether rich or poor families can have disabilities and if on DLA or PIP high rate can still have a car to get around if needed.
February 13, 2025 at 10:21 am #297636You cannot get the Twin motor EX30 on Motability only the SMER. The difference is 3.5sec and 5.3 sec, to 62mph
So no supercar on the scheme. More like a hot hatch.
Who knows if that was even real, It could of been one of those simulations they do in the real world. With all the emergency services, I certainly don’t trust just some pictures and I would of thought, there would be more damage to the mini. It look to me as if the EX30 was placed there by a crane.
I had my hour long unaccompanied test drive in the twin motor and guess what I didn’t crash it. I tried out the park assist, also in the Morrison car park, local to me.
If it was real, it’s likely it would or could happen in any automatic and maybe to anyone in any car, who suddenly had some sort of episode.
Yet somehow, The old, disabled and the scheme are the target.
I’ve seen a few of this guys videos in the past and usually they are factual to some extent about stuff that’s happened or going to be implemented relating to cars, but this time he’s way of the mark.
More on the ZEV mandate for example or oxfords ZEZ and how that’s being forced upon us all. I do feel that’s why many are anti BEV. Plus as MB are pushing EV’s to some extent they also a target.
I just don’t buy into any of it. I got an EV as it works for me. No one has forced me to get an EV or any car.
I always do my own research into things, but I do feel it’s good to hear others views as how can you understand them without knowing them and then you can discuss. The problem is in this day and age is people don’t want to discuss and that’s on both sides. The biggest hurdle to anything is people themselves and there closed minds. Hence me joining this forum.
Once I looked into it all I decide an EV was better for me. Plus even if I couldn’t have a home charger the nearest tesla to me, is supercheap between 12am and 4am. I get it’s not the same everywhere and that’s what people do need to look at, before they get an EV on the scheme and is the biggest complaint on Facebook groups of those who cannot get a home charger installed is the expense of public charging.
luckily I could, get the home charger. Plus I’m sure I heard, if you are worried you won’t, you can get the survey done before ordering an EV, one just needs to ask Motability to arrange that.
EX30 SMER Ultra
February 13, 2025 at 10:46 am #297637Just been looking further into this incident and as a whole Volvo seems to have a vendetta agains’t morrisons across the UK 😂 Anyhow looking at various media sites at the layout of the carpark, its apparent there were no disabled bays in the vicinity and adjacent to the Mini was kerb/block paved area seperating another part of he carpark. An elderly person was involved and had to b rescued from the Mini!
I’m not a fan of this type of YT video’s as they are often skewered to fit their narrative and the gullable tend to make matters worse, unaware of the consequencies it can have.
@Jojoe I started commenting within hour of the video being uploaded. The comments not replies have been deleted. As an example one particular comment had four replies through a duratin of around 1hr and a bit but, have since been deleted however, all my replies to others are still there. I logged back in later after @Glos-Guy said he had commented, to see what he had said and even replied to one of them. I have just double checked, to make sure, I wasn’t mistaken, which I wasn’t. I also noticed one of @Glos-Guy I particular liked where he talked about the scheme, his car and how he wished there was no disability, has also gone however, I don’t know if he himself deleted it or whether it was deleted? but, there is less comments on now than there was yesterday!-

Clearly Geoff Buys Cars has a problem with facts getting in the way of a click bait made up story. Interesting that others say he has made good posts in the past and he clearly has a following, but he’s lost all credibility with me from the off I’m afraid.

He made a similar video ( The Lithium Battery Fire Problem is GETTING SILLY. Plus Runaway EVs…) 3 days ago, where he couldn’t help himself by bringing Motability into the equasion, in the latter part of the video. My comments have been deleted from there to!

I agree with Injector. You can have my Motability car, all my PIP, all my savings, my house and possibly some of my kids organs for a new working spine. I sooo miss walking for the bus, running for the train, standing in the rain and all the other associated little things in life you only miss once gone. Previously a car was a luxury, now sadly it’s a necessity. (Disclaimer: some of the previous was said with tongue in cheek, figure it out).
blah, blah, blah
February 14, 2025 at 10:47 am #297671FWIIW, a new video has just been posted with a stunning Langkawi backdrop. Reads one MB email response in full, but signs off before reading second, which might have been more in keeping with criticism voiced here. Raises other issues from beleaguered UK motorists. Being largely immobile, I quite enjoy his current travelogue, but deplore the inaccuracies and bias that are all too common in main stream media and elsewhere.
February 14, 2025 at 11:02 am #297676In the new video,i again pointed out to him that he should get his facts right before spouting sensational statements about “super cars” that are available on the Motability Scheme,Ex30 Twin Motor 422hp.
He seems to have taken the comment onboard and has hearted it and not deleted it.
February 14, 2025 at 12:08 pm #297684I stopped todays video early on, I think he’s going deeper down the rabbit hole.

three video’s within 5 days, where Geoff has mentioned the scheme to some degree!
If he carries on he’ll need a clickbait watermark for his video’s!
February 15, 2025 at 11:40 am #297710I emailed him and made comments on this to his video and funny enough he never deleted them but also in his mail comments video he never mentioned or had the decency to apologize for his remarks so he goes down in my estimation as he must think these things to get more right wing Daily Mail viewers on side.
