SimonNot sure. Better checking with dealer
November 1, 2020 at 5:27 pm #128416
SusanWe’re in the same situation. As far as I am aware dealerships will be closed as they’re on the none essential list so handover dates will be whenever lockdown or relevant tier restrictions after that.

DarthWe were due to collect our Mazda CX-30 on the 5th – phonecall from the dealership today saying that delivery will be delayed until at least the 2nd of December as they will have to close.
I would presume that this will be fairly universal, regardless of manufacturer.
November 1, 2020 at 6:50 pm #128420
Tim@Darth Your dealer can hand it over sooner if they’re able with no penalty from Motability. Well worth asking if they can do so.
November 1, 2020 at 11:20 pm #128429
Lord MucAs Tim says, get it early, if you can, showrooms are closed, but servicing and mots are still on going, it’s very much how the dealer implements the rules, btw, the motor industry is up in arms, as garden centres can stay open.
November 2, 2020 at 10:51 am #128437I emailed my dealer and they responded to it as they’re chasing up Motability about it whether they can approve it or not. If they allow it they can go ahead. Surprising as I thought dealerships would be closed for all matters?
November 2, 2020 at 11:34 am #128441My guess will be it will be exactly as the last lockdown was, from the infomation i have seen so far and my own experience last time. All we can do is check the MB site for updates on it and go from there.
here’s whats happening in wales
On 19 October 2020, the Welsh Government announced a ‘fire-break’ lockdown in response to the spread of COVID-19. The lockdown, from 6pm on Friday 23 October until Monday 9 November, will require all non-essential retail businesses in Wales to close. This will include dealer showrooms, which means we will not be able to accept new applications during this period. Any new car handovers scheduled for this time will not be able to go ahead. If you are due to take delivery of your car, your dealer will be in touch to rearrange this with you. We will automatically extend any customers leases which are due to end during this two week ‘fire-break’ lockdown. Service centres should remain open for any essential maintenance and repairs.

I was due to exchange my latest car in mid april ordered it in mid jan. Then at the end of march all the dealers showrooms closed for lockdown it was 1st week of june they reopened and was mid/late june when i actually got my hands on the car. The earliest would of been the 9th of june as that is when MB allowed my handover as they did it in stages.
So i would imagine it will be pretty much the same, it depends how long it does last and if they stagger the openings up again when they do.. as back then it was to flatten the curve and save the nhs and it was a few weeks at first then we will look at it and extended and extended it. So it would not surprise me, if the same happens again as where are we again stopping the nhs getting overrun again and flattening the curve and how long did it take last time and right now we in the yearly rise of seasonal illnesses. when the nhs is always at breaking point. every winter so why would this year be any different and thus imo, the lockdown will last for longer imo.. Unless it’s just a game and then things will reopen on 2nd of dec and we’ll all be so grateful but i doubt it.. The nhs is always overrun till at least jan google this ” seasonal illnesses nhs is always at breaking point till when” if you don’t believe me.. you will see storys every jan for years going back.. of how icu beds are full..
Just have to wait and see how in unfolds but if you due to handover and have a car on the scheme and you not due to exchange till a date during lockdown your lease will be extended automatically and i don’t think you can exchange before your 3 years is up unless you lose your gcb and maybe have to pay the fee.. Guess if the dealer has the car, one could do that, but is very little time to get that sorted. plus the new car will sit at the dealers or outside your house, like mine both did for all that time.
really suxxs though, something we all look forward to and all i can say it will be as good on the day you do get it..
November 2, 2020 at 3:54 pm #128471Just received a call from the dealership that handover for Motability customers will be suspended in effect after Wednesday. However, retail handovers are allowed to take place but Motability have refused to accept it for their customers during lockdown. Now my vehicle will be sitting at the dealership rotting and who knows, if the dealer wanted to be evil and sell it! Thanks ever so much for ruining it Motability.
This is until December 2nd but this can also be extended under government guideline rules. So expect heavy delay folks.

MaffumeWe have a similar situation.
Our Car was at Sea, Start of last week, Hoping that my wife may have got it before her birthday to cheer her up a bit, 17th this month. Be gutting if we just have to wait going forward at this point.
No faith in any of this now really which is so frustrating.

Craig TI live in Scotland and have now changed my handover from Friday to this Wednesday. I wanted to be sure I’m going to get my car, as I’ve waited since April, as I ordered it in late January.

john hmy dealership phoned to say the handover will be december at earliest, they say they are unable to bring it foreward, phoned motorbility and its also their view and say my present tax and insurance will be extended,my new ateca is at the dealership ready for hand over
November 3, 2020 at 11:56 am #128520
Lord MucSome dealers are operating a kick and collect, I guess for private buyers, as motobility have decided.
November 3, 2020 at 11:57 am #128521
Lord Muc<p style=”text-align: left;”>Click and collect. Spell check.

November 3, 2020 at 1:10 pm #128525
Jan<p style=”text-align: left;”>My 2 Series GC was meant to be handed over week commencing 23rd… had confirmation that they can’t do click and collect due to needing the PIN to be entered.

MissieI spoke to motability today as im due to collect my new car in the next couple of weeks.
They told me some dealerships are still happy to handover cars if the customer is happy to do so but it will probably be done outside providing they have an ipad or something for us to type the pin into.
I spoke to my dealership (mitsubishi) and they have agreed for me to collect my car during lockdown.
Its worth checking with your individual dealership to find out
November 3, 2020 at 5:41 pm #128548Right folks, those who are waiting for handover in a few weeks just got a call from the dealership (again) today surprisingly that Motability have agreed to go ahead with my handover. Just waiting on delivery now! (Thank you Motability)

Zoei had an email from mitsibushi and they said that they’ll be doing collections still during lockdown
November 3, 2020 at 9:31 pm #128558
ZoeBMW emailed me to say that they will be doing a collect service so I think it’ll all be down to the individual dealers. My car is actually going to be early
November 3, 2020 at 10:42 pm #128560
Lord MucEmail from lookers, confirming click and collect:-
“From Thursday 5th November our sales showrooms and external sales forecourts will be closed to the public. The Government however is allowing non-essential retailers to operate click and collect services so we will be able to continue to handover vehicles throughout November.”
November 3, 2020 at 10:46 pm #128561
Lord MucOn the other hand, how will enter the pin? Unless the motobility software is on an ipad, or something. Or you let the dealer enter for you, on his PC, either in advance or while your there.
November 3, 2020 at 10:55 pm #128564
TimVW and Skoda use iPads as standard and the advisor just sanitised everything for me to type in the pin.
November 3, 2020 at 11:18 pm #128568
Lord Muc<p style=”text-align: left;”>Tim,

That makes sense, at bmw, the guy, was on a PC, and turned the keyboard over to me, after wiping it down, even if a dealer doesn’t have the software on a tablet, no reason why you can’t go inside to type the pin in, no public in there, unlike a supermarket.November 4, 2020 at 12:32 am #128571Great to hear that Zoe! Especially when the X1 is experiencing delays but at Munich, Germany plant they are quick indeed.
Lord Muc, Yeah I entered my pin on the iPad 3 years ago. Even processed an order on there. So glad to hear collections are resumed after a bit of disagreement.

RicoTbh motability.co.uk could just say to dealers as a compromise, you deliver the car and wait 48 hours for customer to go over it, if customer drives car that is deemed as acceptable acceptance
