Hi, we narrowed out new motability car to a Tiguan Elagance 2.0 tsi and Mercedes GLA 180 AMG Premium.

The quality in the cabin and feel is far greater in the merc. Its on anotbet leauge in comparison. Slight concern is you can only get the 180 engine. We couldn’t test drive this as none was available.

Anyone on here who has a GLA 180 who can give some feedback please? How well does it perform on A roads and Motorways. 1.3 sounds ting for that car. I’m worried its going to get overworked and become loud.

      Thanks

Bibi, if you haven’t already done so, if you type ‘GLA 180’ into Google, you’ll find quite a number of video reviews which might answer your question.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I would of thought it would be underpowered for the car tbh</p>

One of my neighbours had the gla180 prem plus with the 136bhp engine . car fully loaded it is underpowered being the renault engine that’s in the clio.

Everything else they couldnt fault, but they did say all the extras of the premium plus the only thing they would miss was the sunroof and with hindsight wish they had chose the 200 sport with the 163bhp

That Tsi Tiguan is a thirsty beast, expensive if you cover a lot of miles.

Going through exactly the same dilemma. It’s odd that you can only get the GLA 200 in Sport trim – seems totally arbitrary. I have the 200 engine in my A-Class and use it mostly on motorways, where it is fine, but I feel I wouldn’t want to drop to the 180. The 200 Sport trim lacks the seats I need so is out for me.

The Tiguan didn’t work for me as the seats lack side support, but the new Qashqai and X1 are in my thinking.

There isn’t any reviews yet on the GLA 180.

I did drive the 180 in A class. Took it on motorway and it was fine. I didn’t feel unsafe. And the turbo helps to get up to speed.

Just not sure how that translates to the GLA. I wouldn’t want to get 200 sport as its lacking alot of toys and premium feel cabin.

First video is reviewing the new 220d 4 matic and the second video is previous gen 1.6 engine review.

My apologies, I googled GLA 180 and these came up. I have to admit I didn’t watch them to confirm.

                                Here.

                                That’s in the CLA.

The GLA weighs slightly more (around 50ish kg), so it’ll be around half a second slower to 60. Half a second doesn’t translate to much when overtaking.

Basically, in the video, the car has two people – comparable to a GLA180 with a single one. Yes, the GLA is less aerodynamic, but at low speeds that doesn’t make mountains of a difference.
