DaveHi having had issues with dealers not passing cars on GCB which was later resolved with Motability I wondered if anyone could answer the following. I realise that once the pin number is entered the contract is made but at what point can you wait to input this, could you say you would only enter once car is checked and passed GCB. My cars are always in good condition but had previous issue with scuffed alloy and this time my drivers door has a small dent which is only through to primer due to someone opening car door parked to close to me

When I picked up my new car on 4th of November. My old car BMW X2 had both front wheel rims badly scuffed due to pot holes and curbing. It had no problems passing GCB. Dealership was EvansHalshaw.
To be fair the rest of the BMW was mint, both inside and out. Just for info. There are 30 odd items that determine the GCB.

November 28, 2022 at 11:32 am #201474Not quite ChrisK. The receiving dealer has a checklist and scoring system he has to comply with.

DaveThanks for all the replies. Does anyone know what is actually on the checklist and if a small dent to primer on door would be one of the things on the list

ajnI’ve no idea Dave as I’ve never handed one back yet, however lots here have and due to the lack of replies I guess you’ll be in the clear, otherwise surely someone with experience would have spoke out ?

olpkWhen I handed my last car back the dealer decided the car was acceptable for GCB and updated the MB system while I was sitting there. No photos where taken. Just a checklist.
MB didn’t do any checking or decision making.
The GCB was paid into my bank within minutes of the dealer updating the system whilst I was still sitting with the dealer.

There is no way that MB would not check a car that’s being return but alas, were all aware of the yarns our dealers tell us . ?Motability don’t personally send anyone out to check it but they do check it I’m sure. It is not the dealers decision on who gets the bonus, there job is just to report back to Motability who then decide. It’s that or I need to kiss my dealers backside when I return my car regardless of its condition. ?
I’ve never returned a car that anyone could say is damaged beyond fair wear and tear so haven’t a clue under what circumstances they would not pay the bonus.
December 17, 2022 at 1:31 pm #202814You missed where they paid him while he still was in the dealership, i assume. That must’ve been a rather speedy check, without any pictures etc.
While you’re not incorrect that the decision ultimately is by MB, they don’t hand check every application – they got a sheet and mark the wear and tear in different categories. If nothing’s marked by the dealer in the (lets call it) “red category”, the GCB gets automatically approved.
It’s their job (and responsibility) to check the car, so technically it is their decision. If they give the green light, MB pays.

AnonymousIs it not the case that some dealers can buy the car thats being returned to them and in that case it could explain dealers not being too bothered or some that are really bothered of any damage.
Is it not the case that photos are taken when it’s mot’d and serviced and then maybe when returned at the end of the lease, so the dealer only might have to verify the condition or the car’s hightlighted condition then.
As when I’ve returned my car’s the dealer has only said I need to look over the car and not seen them take a picture once. Although when i did return my last car, the office was in a porto cabin next to the showroom which was having work done, so I couldnt see the car.
I have never not had the full gcb last car on the scheme got key’d, albeit lightly and someone with a towbar reversed into it, when it was parked and left a small indent in rear bumper.
It didn’t get it’s second year service as i was giving it back and mbo said not to take it for the service, they’d do it after apparently.
Either way the dealer act’s as mb agent and the dealership I got my new car (off the scheme) from, was more than happy to take my Mb car back as well and I think they get a fee also for doing so.
