Hi all my MG ZS EV has thrown a hissy fit threw up Control fault the HV batter shut off it threw emergency brakes on nearly put me thru the windscreen & refused to move.

I pulled the 12v battery & it came back to life, 24 hours later same but this time it was totally dead. Had to wait 3 hours for RAC roadside again then wait 40 mins for a taxi to be sent 30 miles to pick us up & drive us 9 miles home total cost £62 for a 9 mile journey.

This time got a Grandland 1.2 auto hire car the following day at 2pm. That was 30th August.

Dealer thought it was a faulty charge controller £3000 part apparently, but after further diags China no longer thinks so.

I’ve finally managed to pester an EV out of the dealer as I got thru £200 in petrol in 2 weeks, was bankrupting me.

Anyway Motability have already said as its a repeat fault & they have it for 2 weeks last time & 2 weeks already now if I want to they will cancel the contract under the 28 days faulty off the road clause (or something like that).

Question is what other options are there, there’s virtually nothing left on the scheme similar to the ZS now, everything is pretty much smaller. Even if you look at Dino juice there’s not a lot on the larger end now

Corsa, Zoe, Mokka for example & even if I do go to cancel I’m guessing everything has a 6-18 month lead time now?

Only vehicle I’m thinking is suitable to fit a mobility scooter plus luggage etc is the Berlingo & that’s £2500 now so would need motability to agree a grant which I can’t see happening. Will keep an eye out see what changes on 1st October but right now looking pretty grim choice wise so I think I’ll have to keep fingers crossed they can fix this ZS

I’ve just ordered a Zoe, they are currently in production for delivery in November. Most colours available to order.

I think you are shafted I’m afraid. I can not see a similar car on the scheme. Even the Citroen eC4 is £1295 which is a fair wedge. Will you be getting your original AP back?

I guess you have lent on Motability to ask them to provide you with a direct replacement from MG?

Choice of electric vehicles at present is almost non existent. Theoretically there are, I think 44, most are small with equally small ranges.

Guess best to see if they can fix it. If you have to return it tho then you’ll be without a car. That is probably much  worse. Maybe ask motability if they have any near new returns they could transfer to your deal.

Key thing Mb said is “If you want to” So I guess you have the options of waiting longer and see if they can fix it.

The problem might come back again and it seem’s right now they don’t know what it is, suggests it’s maybe some sort of programing/code issue as they seem to be the common problems they cannot find or fix.

A new firmware update may solve the issue.

It’s not nice what happened and in the back of your mind will be, will it happen again and that makes you lose all confidence in the car. If it has then it might be best to get something else. Although right now that’s not so easy and the longest waits seem to be for EV’S.

You will get any ap you paid back pro-rata and if you had the car for over a year you will get £250 gcb, 2 years £400.

If you do cancel the contract, where doe’s that leave you till your next car arrives? Might be another factor in you decsion.
