olpkJust ordered my new EV and within days got a text from Easee to survey for charger fitting.
I wanted an Ohme charger to be compatible with an energy supplier.
Called MB and a quick form completed and switch made without issue.
Allocation initially is random but they are happy to change.
Great service

Hi, can I ask, is this because you are on the Intelligent Octopus (or similar) tariff?
We’ve just ordered a Kia Niro EV and although we’ve not heard from the home charge point installers (it was only ordered on Wednesday!) I am obviously looking at how to make charging as cheap and easy as possible.
Thanks
Mark

olpkI wanted the OHME to be compatible with the OVO tariff.
Octopus was too expensive as although they drop your charging rate they increase your day rate so was more expensive for us. 30% higher day rate than I’m on now.
OVO day rate is pretty much the same as I’m on now. OVO works with Ohme and Faraday .
The car I’ve ordered works direct with OVO but just wanted to future proof my choice a bit for any other EV I may buy
April 22, 2023 at 6:19 pm #219802Can I ask in what way the Ohme charger works with OVO electricity that the Easee one doesn’t?

BertyLol…I didnt know there were different charger manufacturers.
Be good to have some info, as no doubt one will be a difference in quality.

Imran RasoolHi Berty,
Yes there are quite a few different charger manufacturers. I opted to decline the one offered to me on the scheme as wasn’t impressed by the lack of features.
We went with a zappi charger instead. Very simple installation as no earth rod required. All ev chargers need a CT clamp at the main to monitor grid usage etc.
Zappi has a wireless option (this was important for us as our consumer unit is a great distance from the charger) and with the hub we use the app which gives us full control over the charging and loads of other information.
There are some great YouTube videos which really help make your decision.
August 18, 2023 at 7:34 pm #230448Hi Imran, interested in your experience of going for the Zappi charger. We have a solar system, and our battery and inverter are both GivEnergy, the same company that makes the Zappi.
If this charger isn’t on the motability list, do they give you the equivalent cost to get another similar one installed? This way you could always get the best one for your individual situation.
Be a shame to miss out on the installation cost being limited to a few specific suppliers.

Roger WikcoThere are issues with the financial viability of Easee, according to news reports, so I would say try and get the Ohme charger if you can.

I read an article that the Swedish Electrical Safety Authority has revealed numerous safety deficiencies nd the company faces a potenial sales ban?
Edit – Found it, It was Seden and I believe hey have since banned the sale of the charger. Whether it safety concerns are European wide I don’t know.
