June 14, 2022 at 10:09 am #188261It’s easy to see the writing on the wall for EV grants because why on Earth would the government give you grants to buy an EV when in 7 years time you can’t buy anything else.
Maybe a bit too early to stop the grants but as sure as night follows day they will stop.
June 14, 2022 at 10:11 am #188262Wonder how quick Motability will adjust the AP’s. They’re probably furiously working on it as we speak.

June 14, 2022 at 10:38 am #188268Seems fair to me. The public now know EVs are nice things to have. They don’t need bribing any more.

When the Grant was reduced (again without any warning) Motability removed nearly all the electric cars the next day. This is not good news for the Scheme.
June 14, 2022 at 3:49 pm #188310Many of the cars on the scheme were above the £32k limit, so hopefully we will not see prices rising. If the government is going to put money into better charging infrastructure then that is to be welcomed, just don’t have a huge amount of faith in Boris and Co at the moment!
June 14, 2022 at 4:12 pm #188311It’s not rocket science that this has gone when the BiK for salary sacrifice and company car drivers is at 1% if they choose an electric car, hence manufacturers can’t keep up with the demand. Although the BiK rises to 2% next year, it still makes getting an electric car a no brainer if you qualify for one of the above as so many drivers do.
Anecdotally, our outsourced facilities manager had a high end Audi A6 Estate company car, now he has an M3SR. Saves him over £400 a month in BiK & his firm paid for his home charger and all the charging he needs anywhere in Europe. He loves the huge cash saving, moans about the charging stops.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

I posted a couple of days ago about a journey to Cornwall and how there are the same amount of chargers at Frankley Services today as there were 4 years ago. That’s putting us off getting an EV.

June 14, 2022 at 4:58 pm #188314I’m planning a trip to London, appx 250 miles. Will be interested how good the charging infrastructure is. May seek hotel which has a charger or 2.
June 14, 2022 at 5:17 pm #188315Yeah, pretty sure fwippers is correct there.
That grant was only for cars below £32.000. Most of the (decent) EVs on the scheme are above that, and wouldn’t have qualified for the subsidy anyway.
The Kona Ultimate, for example, is over £37.000, and isn’t eligible for the £1500 grant. There are EVs that are below the threshold, but as i said, most decent ones on the scheme are above.
I assume the changes by MB were mostly driven not by the reduction from £2500 to £1500, but the fact that the price threshold dropped from £35.000 to £32.000.
That all said, of course there’s always a chance that it’s gonna be used as an excuse to jack up the prices. But purely based on the facts, nothing should change for most EVs on the scheme.
Prior: SEAT Ateca Xcellence Lux 1.5 TSI DSG MY19, VW Golf GTE PHEV DSG MY23
Current: Hyundai Ioniq 6 Ultimate
Next: we'll see what's available in 2028.June 14, 2022 at 6:23 pm #188322The change in grant didn’t really impact sales as after a little shouting about a lack of warning all manufacturers adjusted their prices to suit. I’m sure that any necessary price adjustment will happen rapidly once they’ve considered any potential impact. My guess would be a small reduction in base level prices but there aren’t many EVs coming in under £32k. Also, given that there are supply issues and certain manufacturers really aren’t promoting their base models seeking better returns I am sceptical that the change is going to be received as dramatically as the big grant reductions seen last time.
