New cars built in Europe are likely to become £1,500 more expensive on average for UK customers next year due to 10% post-Brexit import tariffs

This will have a devastating effect on many of the models and trim levels being culled from the Motability list.

So after championing Brexit the daily fail are now complaining about it.

This should make it easier to import the larger wheelchair adapted cars from the US so wheelchair users are no longer relegated to adapted vans.

Perhaps customs & excise will also get cleared up, last time I imported a wheelchair from outside the EU they attempted to charge me a 20% import duty until I threatened to expose their corruption to the newspapers.

 

Remember….. there are always loopholes, a vehicle imported pre-adapted for a wheelchair user would be zero rated.

This will put WTO under the spotlight, just like coronavirus has put WHO under intense scrutiny. Difference being there is time change this before the tariffs kick in. Also could be part of the reason renault are moving the Kadjar and smaller suv to Sunderland.

There could be some cars that we pay tariffs on now as part of the eu. This could be swiftly corrected.

Perhaps a trade deal with the US could reduce the price of a Model 3 in the UK.

It will mean carprices from outside the eu, will be more competitively priced against eu cars all without having to decrease their prices, The eu makers may have to take the 10% loss or they’ll sell less cars..

I for one wouldn’t want many American cars on the scheme, Tesla would be an exception as they make RHD cars.

Why would anyone want a 5 litre Ford Fiesta that does 12 mpg.
