Electric for under 25

I wish mobility would have some medium size electric cars for under 25s to drive. I can’t drive for for long and at night I find it difficult to drive with dry eye. So my daughter drives me about a lot. And the money I could save would be so much beneficial to us in fuel costs. I know there are smaller electric cars which we could get but I have a wife and two teenager daughters and I do have crushes which I need to bring with me. Please mobility look at this

        Hi Chefthe1

Under 25 has always been a problem for Motability younger customers regardless of what makes the wheels go around but the fear from a disability point of view is will electric cars in future be large enough to carry disability equipment regardless of age.

Most electric cars have speed limiter on them and your probably won’t do as many miles so less chance of a accident. And it’s better for the emissions. So it’s really a win win for everyone. But all medium size electric all have over 120bhp. It’s a shame for I was looking at the 2008 e pug what would suit us really well

How many “Crushes” do you have or need to take with you at onetime? Would a minibus not be better suited, you must have a very understanding Wife lol.

sorry couldn’t resist,it made me chuckle

yes Motability do need to address the whole under 25’s and the whole BHP debacle, most manufacturers are now redesigning the small/Medium cars with electric inmind so hopefully with a change in the BHP and insurance group caps we could see them filter through in the near future.

Should be raised to group 18 and BHP to 135

I’ve drove 2 clios yet when I go to pick a new car next month I won’t be able to get a Clio  due to the non of the autos being available to the under 25s

The insurance company simply charging a premium would satisfy most I think.

“Electric cars have speed limiters” …. what a load of tosh ?‍♂️ like every car on the road it has a maximum speed of can reach and that’s its limit

“Probably won’t do as many miles “… again, load of tosh ? my first Leaf I done 42k in 3 years, this current Leaf is 3 years old today and has done 55,090 miles and that would have been over 60k if lockdown hadn’t happened ?

Rhodgie your be surprised at how many vehicles are limited from factory, Mercedes is a prime example they limit them to 155 but alot of them are more than capable of exceeding that. Alot of vans are too.

JS that’s a ridiculous comparison… firstly I’ve a lot of years experience in the motor trade and still have friends there so I’m well aware of vehicles that are limited. Secondly only a few cars can exceed that speed and the 155 limit is a voluntary agreement between the German manufacturers except for Porsche. Name me one van that can exceed 155 cause that I dont know.

Otherwise the only limiters on cars is the maximum speed as set by the manufacturer, and in the case of my Leaf that’s a true 89mph (shows 100 on the dash). That limit is set not only by the engine size but by things like the tyres fitted, the braking system, whether it’s a car built for speed or economy….but I stand by my original comment that electric cars having a speed limiter is tosh ?‍♂️

A lot of vans are too (limited that is not limited to or capable of 155 plus)

my point being some are limited and capable of more, I agree not electric cars but EV is not like every car on the road,  maybe I read your post wrong in which case i apologise as do I for not making my previous post clear.

                              Thank You for the correction.
