RichardIt’s honestly no harder generally that doing pay at the pump, it’s just new, different and “scary”. The only downside is the number of apps or RFID cards to use and that can be got around using contactless cards mostly.
Practice doing it a few times locally at the supermarket so when you need to charge on a long journey you know what you’re doing.
Zapmap, Octopus Electric universe, Bonnet and a few others are essential imho.
October 15, 2023 at 2:51 pm #238416@Richard, I agree. The process of plugging in is really much easier than trying to put £40 of petrol in the tank.
With all the apps, cards and memberships there’s a simple rule; only get what you use regularly. With the infrastructure growing, it’s possible to plan your charging to avoid app/grid only charging. There’s also a few companies now offering a one subscription joins many type scheme where you get access to all the associated companies.

Yes I’ve seen that and it just seems like a really obvious solution. One card/app .. done.
Kia were advertising their version of this to me.
To keep the EV argument going I present this video for your consideration. His problems reflect my EV custodianship perfectly.
"Come on BYD Seal!"October 15, 2023 at 3:12 pm #238419If I had to use public charging on a regular basis I would not have even considered getting my EV
Far to expensive and time consuming imo
Low miles urban driving so getting good range
Home charge every couple of weeks so happy with that

October 15, 2023 at 5:33 pm #238435The one card thing would certaily be the way to go, rather than having cards galore ontop of your debit and credit cards in your wallet.
October 15, 2023 at 6:38 pm #238451I keep the cards in the car, rather than my wallet. I have a few cards kept in a steel rfid wallet.
Chargeplace Scotland, Octopus Electroverse, Shell Recharge, Kia Charge, BP Pulse come to mind, although I’ve only ever used the Chargeplace Scotland and Electroverse cards on my long trips (done several this year, inc. a 340 mile trip from Liverpool to NE Scotland on Friday). Most places take contactless payment (done via apple/google pay to avoid the £100 card pre-authorisation).
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

Most cars have a cubby hole somewhere you can store these cards if you need them.
To be fair, I have one app with a pre-paid amount and that’s for our local Tesco chargers. Everything else is contactless payments. If I had the need for a RFID card or some form of discount card/subscription card, I’d keep them somewhere safe in the car rather than my wallet.
