Does PIP automatically mean I can get a Blue Badge?

I’m new to the Motability Scheme, and I was wondering if getting my higher rate PIP will mean I can get a Blue Badge? I’m aware I need to apply for the Blue Badge separately, but would anything be stopping me from getting this badge? Thanks

Yes, if you’ve been awarded the higher rate mobility component you are automatically entitled. You’ll need show a copy  of the award letter when you apply.

Not necessarily. My county council has rejected my Mother’s ability to reapply for a Blue Badge as she received 12 points for Planning and Following. Under their new criteria, it states that she must receive 10 points for ‘Can not undertake a journey as it would cause overwhelming psychological distress to the claimant’ so she has had to apply under ‘hidden disabilities’.

That means you’re disabled enough to qualify for the mobility component at high rate (usually a challenge in itself), but now you get judged again by the local council ?

And just a quick note, every council authority have different processes and criteria in setting whether you are eligible for blue badge. It is not a countrywide scheme in certain aspects.

I got my BB before being awarded DLA or PIP had an assessment arranged by county council, my wife has a BB she doesn’t claim PIP she saw what I had to go through to get DLA and doesn’t want the stress.
