I’m in the same boat, ordered a q3 in jan and it’s build date keeps getting pushed back, was meant to be ready start of may it’s now not till mid July, been so close to cancelling it for a xc40 hybrid as I’ve seen some in stock on the Volvo search but everytime I see a q3 in real like it makes me think the wait is worth it

if however we are surprised in July with surprise editions / big price changes then I’ll see

This issue is affecting almost all manufacturers now and is getting worse, not better. I believe that Hyundai is about the only major brand unaffected, as they had the foresight to stock pile semiconductor chips. The ‘just in time’ distribution process that almost all car manufacturers use these days has fallen over spectacularly, with tiny computer chips causing delays to millions of new cars. I was talking to the Sales Manager of a Ford dealership today and he said that any orders placed now would be Nov/Dec delivery, if not next year, all because of semiconductor shortages. He also said that this problem is even bigger and more widespread than car companies are stating. They don’t want to be up front about the severe delays as it will stop new car orders.

If ever proof was needed that the supply of semiconductor chips are being prioritised to the manufacturers of mobile devices (who use new and expensive chips) as opposed to the auto manufacturers (who use older and less profitable chips), I will share this anecdote with you.

Many of us have been waiting anything from 3 to 9 months for our new cars due to the current chip shortages. By contrast, yesterday afternoon I ordered a new iPhone which utilises the latest generation chips. It arrived at 0830 this morning and we don’t even live in a city!

I’m expecting a waiting time of 6 months but the thought of these very long lead in times have raised this question in my mind…

…if I order a car but haven’t extended the lease on my current car and the new car takes (God help us?) 12 months and a day to be delivered do you get the extra GCB for having your old car for 4 years?

Not that a £100 is in anyway thought as compensation as I rather have the new car delivered on time but just interested in what happens in this situation.?
