Cheap PHEV

      Hi all,

We have just ordered a Renault Captur 160 PHEV, I know it is too small for most on here but at £4000 cheaper than the next PHEV it is an absolute bargain.  It was over £1800 last quarter

We were going to go for the Self Charging HEV but the PHEV is cheaper, so a no brainer for us especially with the spec of the Engineered model.

Any views on a PHEV we need to look out for?

Another cheap PHEV is the Renault Megane at £2499 AP.

We’ve had our XC40 PHEV 21 months now. You can leave the car to its own devices and it will mix battery and engine use as best it can. Your pattern of use will determine if you can improve on that.  We keep the battery topped up with the 13A plug charger. Daily use is usually less than the battery range so we don’t use any petrol. Journeys longer than the battery range, I’ve taken to using the battery on the slower parts (usually beginning and end) and using the engine for the open road parts, having looked the cost ber mile of each – petrol at low speed costs more, electricity at high speed costs more.

The megane is a full EV not a phev, It’s one of the cheaper proper EVs ,as in it was designed as an EV so its roomier inside. It seems Renault are good prices relative to the other offers.

Cheers @wigwam Had a bit of a play about with the settings when on a test drive, and it also has a “one pedal mode” which makes it drive like a full EV with the stronger regenerative braking so makes the battery charge last even longer.

Will be swapping to Octopus EV electricity plan so as all our journeys are short and local, we should be able to run it cheaply and without using petrol, like yourself.

Looking at 12-16 week delivery hopefully.

@Noel. The Octopus EV plan will cost you more.  The increased daily charge is much more than the saving you’ll make on the unit price given the relatively small amount of electricity a PHEV is likely to use.

@wigwam thanks for that, just looked at the differnce and as it only has a 9.8 battery we will just charge it on normal plan then can even charge during the day.

There is a difference but it is cheap all the same.
