You can change your car if your disability changes, but after 5 days?
Has your disability changed since you tried it out before ordering.

Lord Muc<p style=”text-align: left;”>These days, before you order, The advisor runs through a check list to see if the car meets your requirements, and you sign to agree to that. Unless you have waited ages or your condition has substantially changed from that agreement, you may have a problem, only way to tell is to speak candidly to motobility</p>

AdeI really liked the A-class, but knew it was a non starter just because the difficulty getting in and out.
The A-class is better for entry and exit than my existing Fiesta, which am struggling to use.

martinoi think for a lot of disabled people its difficult to get in salon type cars , id love a mer a class salon c class or bmw 3 serious
but in reality i could not get in or out comfortable so like a lot of disable i need a high up suv style car.
i think when we pick a car i think we like i think we should be given the same car to try for a week or so , so we can see if we are sore in the car

DBtruthMartino, I also think it would be great if you could get every motability car on a test for a couple of days at least to see what it would actually be like to live with. I also think people might feel more comfortable testing the car at their own pace rather than having a sales person talking rubbish in your ear while you’re trying to decide if it’s suitable

martinomy brother went for a test drive last week he got to go on his own only cause of cov19 he said it was good not having sale man there
he went back two days latter had an afternoon test drive like the car so much brought the car back and placed an order

ZoeI think after 5 days it would be very difficult to argue that your needs have changed and they will probably tell you that you signed the form saying it was suitable.

Indeed martino. Unfortunately, some Motability customers appear to go for style over substance. I would have loved a little Mazda MX-5 when it was on the scheme for instance… but seeing how the seats were about 3 inches off the tarmac and I would have had to have been ‘The Amazing Rubber Man’ in order to get in & out of it – I reluctantly crossed the little beauty off my list the following day.
Five days later & wanting to change cars? I wouldn’t be surprised if Motability told you to sling your hook!
July 19, 2020 at 10:31 pm #119663Hello Timmy,
After many months of lurking on this site whilst considering the best course of action to facilitate the mobility part of my particular disability, I have now joined just to allow comment on this post.
Firstly, it would be easy to take shots at this post, so I think you need to clarify your situation to allow the educated and informed forum members to help you better. For example, assuming your particular disability is physical based on your difficulty getting in and out of a regularly sized car, did you not try the car first? Did you have a test drive where you examined your ability to live with this vehicle for 3 years rather than look at the style and badge kudos? Did you not sign to say you agreed that this vehicle satisfied your needs? If you weren’t given the opportunity to test drive the car or sign to say it was ok then you have cause for complaint, to both the dealer and Motability.
If, however, you did have these opportunities and still signed up for an unsuitable vehicle then you should expect the financial or physical impact on you to be significant. We all make mistakes, but you have to pay when you do, and to expect the business who supplied you in good faith to absorb the cost is both unfair and unrealistic. Also, and I think this is my main point, most Mobility customers experience some degree of difficulty with motor retailers, and it feels like a fair proportion of this is down to the ability to refuse the sale for any reason, at the last moment. This gives a great deal of power, one that retail customers don’t have in anything like the same way, but with that comes the responsibility to not abuse that system. To do so is to endanger the relationship that the motor industry has with Motability customers, and cause further distress to your peer group in the future.
I’m sure your particular situation has more to it than is evident, at least I hope it does. For what it’s worth, I hope you find recourse, either through mediation with the various parties, or by acceptance that you need to accommodate some discomfort to facilitate a Mercedes Benz. I just hope that recourse doesn’t reflect on those next in line.

Matt BVery eloquently put, I couldn’t have voiced the same opinion better myself. I think I speak for most in asking Timmy to elaborate on the points made, with a view to moving the topic on.
I reserve judgement ultimately until further info is provided, but on the face of it, the situation doesn’t look good on Timmy or the community accessing the Motability service.
