Hello everyone I am picking up my first car in the next couple months and was hoping someone would know if your allowed to choose your plate?

I know people who have had leases in the past and got to choose from a list of different ones the dealer had. Was wondering if this is the case with motability?

Hi, I doubt it as Motability buys the car from the dealer as they will be the owners, The only way I know is if you buy private plate with Motability agree to fitting them during your hire period.

When dealers are selling lots of new cars, they apply to DVLA for between 10 and 20 reg numbers that they will register the new car with. You could speak to them before they register it and ask them to show you what they have available out of those numbers. You could then ask them can I have that one please. They should give it to you no problem.

Yes as Belfast4 says most dealers will have a short list of plates that you should be able to select from.Always a chance that one of these will click with you as a suitable/memorable choice.

My CItroën Dealer can no longer chose number plates. They auto generated now as I wanted CE again but even before the car arrived from the port it was already given CF21 ***

I was allowed to chose from a few letters 3 years ago. They had the pre fix AA18***, they last 3 letters you could choose from a range of about 10-20. So the location AA18 would be fix and then the next 2 letters e.g. BC would be fixed then you could choose the last letter. So AA18BC would be fixed and then the last letter I was given was to choose from A-T for example. So I could choose S and then the number plate would be AA18BCS.

Hope than helps. But you could ask your dealer.

If you have a special number on retention. Or buy a registration number from the DVLA then Motability will allow you to have that number allocated to the car.  Talk to your dealer and they will know the procedure.
