Car pick up

      The earliest we can contractually  pickup our new car is the week before Xmas. The time just before Xmas is particularly busy for us so we may decide not to pick the car up until the new year.

      Do I need to inform Motorbility or is this an issue between myself and the dealer.

        If its a minor delay such as this, its between you and the dealer, very understandable given the time of year.

          Hi, I would still notify motability as you have a contract if you have signed the acceptance of the car, do Not rely on just the Dealer and get motability to provide written agreement.

            We have not accepted the car we would do that until the day of our pick up.

              Dragonfly, do you currently have a Motability leased car? If you do then the insurance will be due to cease on your agreed handover day. You should contact Motability and have this conversation with them, just to make sure there are no misunderstandings.

                Yes I do and the insurance runs out on the 20th Dec, depending on what the dealer tells me I will ring Motability and get them to give me additional cover until I can pick the car up.

                Its not very convenient having to pick up a car just before Xmas…..so many late night parties to attend 🙂 (I wish).

                When this has happened before, a couple of cars ago, the dealer went off the deep end I suspect he needed the car to  be accepted and picked up before the New Year for it to be included in his figures, we managed to sort it out being the season of goodwill to all men (Dealers included) 🙂

                  Drangonfly your quite right some dealers will push and want it for end of years sales figures. But with that in mind if the dealerships figures are good they will be willing to delay, but officially you need to let both dealership and Motability know, the dealership can update the back office system for your continued use of present vehicle but may need you to confirm to Motability the delay is your doing to stop them getting fined. It shouldn’t be an issue just a couple of calls and you can relax.

                    @JS

                    I spoke to Motability this morning and they confirmed what you had written, I just need to agree the pick up date with the Dealer. If the insurance on the current vehicle has expired by the agreed pickup date  the dealer can simply extend the insurance on my current vehicle to cover the pick up date.

                    I thought that’s the way it worked last time but wanted to be sure.

                    The pick up date should only be delayed by a week, I haven’t had a pick up date  confirmed by the dealer yet so I can only make plans around the date of the  contractual end to my current lease. The pick up date will have to fit in around the dates we already in our calendar, life gets busy when youre retired.
