Car order keeps getting delayed….

I have a Peugeot 2008 GT model (auto Petrol) on order and it has been delayed now twice. The current estimate is 30th June. This is 1 day before mobility updates its prices. I’m not sure if its worth waiting and risking ANOTHER delay or seeking an alternative car. I know that due to having it “ordered” we are immune to price changes unless we cancel.

The mobility scheme is through my partner who is eligible but it would be only me driving since she isn’t allowed. I passed my test a few months ago and was originally going to buy my own car but was encouraged to go through mobility since it made more sense financially. My partner really wants this particular car but it appears that we could be facing delay after delay with no recourse.

How common are multiple delays? I know during covid there was a backlog issue but not sure what’s going on currently.

If you definitely want a peugeot, you could try that Tim Scott guy that keeps advertising motability deals on Facebook.  He seems to get models in very quickly.  He’s up north somewhere, can’t remember where though sorry.

Have a look on Autotrader for available stock within a distance your happy to travel from your location and ask if thy are willing to let it go to Motability.

If your not limited to BHP have a look at a Renault clio Etech 145 hybrid. Plenty on Autotrader ready to go!

More often than not, repeated delays to Motability orders are because the dealer didn’t order the car from the manufacturer when you ordered it from them, as they didn’t have any available build slot allocations. Dealers will almost never volunteer this information and lead you to believe that the car has been ordered when, in reality, they have sat on it for a month (or two or three). I’ve never ordered a Peugeot, but if it works like most other manufacturers the dealer should be able to give you a tracking number within a few days of you ordering. If they won’t provide it it’s almost certain that they haven’t ordered the car and you might as well try somewhere else, but always ask “do you have any immediately available build slot allocations?”. That way they know what you are talking about and are less likely to palm you off.

When we ordered he checked his computer and asked what colour we wanted. He then said there was 50 or so available and he would try and “grab one” and to get in touch in 48 hours. We did and he said he managed to get one.

So it was supposed to be a 6-8 weeks then it changed to 12 weeks and now its the end of June. Does the above sound like he was lying or just typical delays?

Remember you cannot use use for your own personal leisure use.

I have asked top level Motability management and it is not Allowed. Use it for your work , Yes. Personal leisure use by named driver, spouse or partner included. No.

I think with that its more about not taking advantage of the scheme. For example, I know someone on the scheme and she argued that going to the gym was to the “benefit of the person” because it was keeping her fit and healthy to better care for said person. They said that was fine. How is that not “personal leisure” ?

It’s a notoriously grey area.  You could argue going to the cinema, out to a restaurant etc was for your mental health so that you were fit and healthy to look after the person who receives the PIP.

Looking at the deals section there seems to be plenty of dealers offering cars from stock/pipeline, I’d be cancelling and searching for a deal. Well worth a couple of train rides to get sorted quickly and maybe even save on your AP.

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

Yeah but the issue is getting one that my partner will be happy with. She wants a compact-suv type of car. I have tried to get her to consider a different car but she has fell in love with the peugeot 2008 so its a losing battle. Struggling to find a similar car with a realistic AP that she is happy with.

Just out of curiosity as I’m in the same boat. We ordered in February and were given an estimated date of 3 months.

2 days after the order, I got a Reservation Summary email from Peugeot/Stellantis (not the dealership) with a reservation number and collection date between June and August. The dealership has said their admin team are seeing late May for delivery but I’m doubtful.

Did you get your reservation summary email, and when did you order?

Of course you can use the car for personal leisure use IF it benefits the disabled PIP recipient too.  Is it really that difficult to organise such things that way?  It really isn’t there are an almost infinite number of ways to ensure this isn’t an issue by either including the disabled person or doing their shopping at the same time or loads just use your imagination and they’re all perfectly legitimate providing they’re not just made up excuses.

Not looking to be mean but unless you can name a direct quote from a PR person from motability or someone with a singular job title like CEO then like everything Motability says different stuff comes from nearly every person. Also who says what you’re doing at whatever time is leisure etc?  Unless you say something like I was on my way to go ice skating on my own….

Also bringing this up in this context seems a little rude, suggesting that the OP would fall foul or be looking to break the rules?  It could just be me but when I see stuff like this pop up from nowhere it always just seems like its being thrown at people to put a stop to it.  I’m sure its just me being prickly about things but it’s just how I read it each time.

Anyway i’ll add no more as it’s not relevant to the topic.  As for dates changing, the date you’re given is only ever an estimate so it will change until you’re given a firm delivery date that is.

This isn’t true, so you were misinformed. When we retired we went down to one car. We previously had one private one (mine) and one Motability one (my wife’s). Also, this coincided with my wife no longer being able to drive. I called Motability and said that we only needed one car but the vast majority of the usage would be me on my own so was that OK. The answer was a firm yes and they said that this was very common and the comments about personal use were there as a fall back for them to recover cars where there was blatant abuse – such as child or grandchild who lived elsewhere using the car as their own and only visiting the benefit recipient once a month! For the avoidance of doubt, they further clarified that where a couple living together only needed one car, the car could be used in exactly the same way as if they had one privately owned car, including the partner using the car to and from work.

I think that people sometimes get confused by asking the question in the wrong way, if that makes sense, and if Motability think someone is trying to manipulate something they fall back on the policy wording, but please don’t scare monger by making people think that they can’t use their cars in the normal way when they can. If you wish to buy a second car when it is unnecessary then that is of course your prerogative, but it is a waste of money (unless of course you want a second car).

I use our Motability car for personal use several times a week and will continue to do so without any qualms whatsoever whatever you or anyone else says. My wife says that every single time that I go out and leave her on her own she benefits from it 😂

My one and only experience ordering Peugeot (on Motability) back in 2019 was not positive to say at least. If you are ready to consider Skoda Enyaq Coupe as an alternative, there are plenty of them: I have placed an order for SportLine first week of April and it was here by 25 April.

I had to cancel the order for various reasons ( one I explained in one of the previous posts), but I believe if you would consider driving Skoda Enyaq Coupe SportLine or other trim, Mark Younger, Motability specialist at Skoda Southampton, will be more than happy to assist.
