Do you remember doing your driving test before the written test you had to know the breaking distance formula in case you were asked, I know it of by heart , know I can’t remember it , it was something like s over d x something

But is it outdated with cars being a lot safer know

I saw this on the TV some years ago, that modern cars breaking distances are around half of what they were when the stopping distances were set. Sadly, human reaction times haven’t improved and there are far more dangers on the roads nowadays, not least many times as many cars!

The distances were set when all cars had drum brakes.
