SteveIf you’re thinking of ordering the X1 I would do it before the 19th November as they are being removed from the scheme.

PaulAnd I can’t wait to return mine ?
Too high up for me these days ?
November 16, 2021 at 3:55 pm #169244That’s a real shame if correct. I’m surprised, as the X1 is towards end of life and lead times have been better than most of the other premium SUV’s on the scheme (not that any remain now, other than the Volvo XC40, as far as I recall). That being said, when we ordered earlier this year our dealer said that demand for the X1 from private buyers was still extremely high.
Let’s hope that the all new X1 will appear on the scheme when it launches, although I suspect that it might not for at least 6 months after launch and we might not be able to get the nippy / luxury / 4WD versions that we can now. Time will tell.

BobHow do you know it’s being removed steve?
November 16, 2021 at 11:53 pm #169286Could be due to the new model being out soon.

I doubt it Elliot. BMW haven’t even released any details or photos of the new X1 yet, which means that it almost certainly won’t be released until well into 2022 (which fits with what my dealer told me back in March). When orders commence (a few months after that) I suspect that there will be a delay of some further months again until it appears on the Motability scheme, as initial priority will be given to private customers.
I’m guessing here, but following the removal of the Q3 and GLA from the scheme, plus £1200 increases in AP on the XC40, I suspect that there’s been a surge in X1 orders from Motability customers looking for a small premium SUV and BMW are already struggling to fulfil orders from private customers (where demand is still incredibly high, in spite of the impending new model).
It may be that as soon as official details are released of the new X1 retail demand may slow and then I wouldn’t be surprised if the current X1 returns to the scheme for a period until production stops, but of course it’s all guess work, as is everything to do with Motability!
November 19, 2021 at 7:22 am #169504Well as of 0715 this morning, the X1 is still showing as available to order on the Motability website, but we know how unreliable the website is. Given that several members have now been told by different BMW dealers that it’s being removed today I wouldn’t be hanging around if I was considering ordering one. Maybe the plan was for 19th to be the last day?
November 19, 2021 at 9:08 am #169509If the X1 goes then the X2 will go as well.
November 19, 2021 at 9:14 am #169510If the X1 goes then the X2 will go as well.
That’s a good point, although the X2 is nowhere near as popular as the X1 so perhaps the lower demand might save it for a bit longer?
November 19, 2021 at 11:24 am #169517Problem is if the X1 does go would it up the sales of the X2, I would consider the X2 if the X1 wasn’t on the scheme, even though I prefer the X1.
Personally I think BMW would pull both, which would be a shame.

Hi Matty. Out of interest, when your BMW dealer said Q2 at the earliest, were they talking about the current X1? Details of the all new X1 haven’t even been released yet, so it probably won’t even be launched until some time in 2022 and then I suspect that there will be a delay of a quarter or two until retail demand has eased to the point that BMW is happy to add it to the Motability scheme.
November 20, 2021 at 5:35 pm #169621It was the new X1 he was talking about , but he did stress q2 the earliest so did get the impression he was kind of saying q2 but meant q3 more likely

Thanks Matty. He’s obviously just guessing as they don’t know when it will be released yet, let alone when it will be available on Motability (assuming that it will be). We contemplated holding on for it but I’m very glad that we didn’t. We are already 4 months into our lease on our current X1 and if past history is anything to go by, the all new model will be announced by BMW some months before it’s on the roads, then there will be another few months (or longer) until it appears on Motability.
When it does eventually appear on Motability it will probably just be the lower spec, smaller engine variants initially and then another few quarters will go by before the more desirable models start to appear (if ever they do, given the way that Motability is going). By then we shall be more than half way through the lease on our 2.0i petrol 4WD xLine that, by then, is probably not even on the scheme!
November 20, 2021 at 6:11 pm #169624I’m due to change January next year but the choice is getting worse really had my eye on the xc40 so am hoping for a return in q1 but if not will just have to hang fire

Far more chance of the XC40 than the X1 in January I would think Matty, as it’s having the mildest of facelifts whereas the X1 will be an all new model. The XC40 was our second choice and gets some great reviews, but at 56 I decided that I wasn’t quite old enough for one yet ?. The T5 is very popular amongst forum members, but the B4-P drinks like a fish so is best avoided.

Give it time and I fear that your prediction may come true!
