Hi all,Sorry for yet another i4 thread but with so mamy appearing this post may get lost.

My neighbour received his bmw i4 40 and decided to have the window tints done and had some issues which i thought i would share as i see some are having this option added after factory order.

On the the coupe the windows open and close when the door is opened and closed(various settings on how far down the wimdow drops is available via info screen settings and via key).

The problem he had was the company he used decided om holding the windows in place using some suction gadget,as a result one of the wimdows when opening does not drop slightly on closing now which has caused an issue that has damaged the motor and that particular wimdow will not open or close at all via controls.

So those who are having tints done after getting car, i strongly recommemd to do some checks and better still check the company you use has done the i4(or coupe style) before.

      • Guess he let the price he was offered of £165 rule his head of research of the compamy.

I had about 6 cars window tints and never had any problems I did by the way contact Motability insurance and Motability Op before having them fitted and remember you have to pay for retinting if a window  broken, I for the first time have not tinted my Mini as I paid extra for factory rear tint which Looks great I am not sure yet whether I will have extra tint but as my car is legal I feel better about this I did used to have a light smoke on fronts but although it protects against uva and looks better It is still illegal according to the law. There is a way around the legal bit is to have the newer  chameleon window tint which you can even have windscreen done as it lets in over 75% light and you can have various colours it looks a bit Rainbow like, it is more expensive though and it is hard if you have front windows and win screen done to see you, obviously you cannot have the dark tint in this I was quoted around £400 for front windscreen and two side front windows which I not too bad and the company Has done my previous tints so the are very good.

I believe holding the window in place with suction gadgets isn’t the right procedure to tint drop down windows,  definitely a inexperience tinter

I have been quoted £180 to get all the rear and back passengers windows tinted by a reputable garage, who does bmw/audis and jaguars dealerships cars

if you do decide to get windows tinted, make sure you do research on the garage prior handing your car over, last thing we all want is having to get our windows replaced

Yes I also have never seen window tints done in this way very strange I would steer clear of this tinter I do know of a Mobile tinting company that charges a lot and they take out the windows to tint I was not keen on that and now use the best company that picks up my car and like said to tint 3 door mini limo at back and low smoke on fronts £180.

I was quoted £180 for the tints for the 2 back and rear and was considering to cancel the £350 i paid for the i4 on order. Thought i would save myself £170 but after reading the above Im going to stick to the factory fitted glass.

thank you for bringing this to my attention as I didn’t even think about re-paying for the tints again if something happened as of course this couldn’t be covered whereas the sun protection glass would be.
