      Anyone with a BMW iDrive 7 try purchasing a few add-ons through the connected store? How are you finding it? I did purchase the high beam assist but I was relatively disappointed.

      I advise not to purchase it as it is not worth it. I should’ve done my research before hand! It’s actually useless and boring. I thought they would be the matrix type headlights ??‍♂️. I’d have rather gone for the fake exhaust drive sound that bops out the speakers, similar to what the new Golf GTD has in its spec.

      Atleast BMW are not jumping on those horrible fake exhaust bumper design that VW, Audi and the rest of those cheap manufacturers produce so well done BMW!

        Ha ha, no fake exhausts but fake exhaust sound from the speakers. Oh the irony!

          High Beam Assist simply dips your high beam when there is traffic ahead of you or you enter an area with streetlights. It has the same functionality as if you do the same manually I.e. both front headlights dip in their entirety. Matrix headlights or Adaptive Headlights have High Beam Assist within them as part of their functionality, but it only dips the part of the beam that would dazzle the traffic, leaving the remaining area on full beam. They do all sorts of other clever things as well. Here’s the full description of what the Adaptive LED headlights that I have added as an option to my X1 order will do;

            If BMW’s Vroom-Sound generator is anything like the system fitted on its Minis then don’t waste your money. It is fun and entertaining for a few days and then becomes annoying. Moreover on the Mini you can’t turn the damn thing off!

              There ain’t no vroom sound generator in my X2 sport. Proper exhaust note for the full 3inch pipes.

                Richard, well that’s the closest BMW will come to fakeness and that’s an added option also which is a compliment for them. So my hats off to BMW keeping the genuine parts and features going.

                Glos Guy, I believe I have the adaptive headlights, I mean its pretty much standard yet the headlights a are beyond bright! Even the indicators are brighter in the dark which almost blinded my neighbour.

                Tharg, I have no idea what it sounds like. Thanks for sharing your experience and yes I believe it is that silly sound when you accelarate. That’s disappointing if you cannot turn it off.

                Joss, Ha ha real exhaust pipes right there. I think it just helps with the driving experience but from what i’m hearing it’s doing the opposite! Fake imaginary experience.

                  DaveG – I assume that you have a 3 Series as they have adaptive lights as standard? It’s weird that High Beam Assist isn’t part of the system though, as proper adaptive headlights rely on high beam assist to function properly. When using full beam, do your headlights ‘carve out’ the oncoming vehicle only and then fill that part of the beam in again the second the car passes? If so, it seems daft that you’d have to manually switch between main and full beam.

                  Adaptive headlights aren’t standard on as many cars as you think. Of our 6 shortlisted SUV’s, only the VW Tiguan Elegance has them as standard and several of the others (XC40, Q3 etc) don’t even have them as options. Pretty much all cars have LED headlights now but I have been used to fully adaptive matrix type systems on our last few cars and, even though we do very little driving in the dark these days, I would really miss them.
