Ahmed MohamedHi since BMW have dropped out of the motability scheme. I wanted to know if there was any chance of them returning in Q2. As my daughter has been planning to get an BMW for her birthday which is in Q2

PsuaderHave you asked BMW customer services? We won’t know any more than what they tell you.
February 10, 2022 at 7:13 am #176791None of us know Ahmed. As the chip shortage is unlikely to have improved much before next year I would think it’s unlikely, but there may be the odd model that’s less affected and makes a return, but it’s anybody’s guess.
Even if they do return in Q2, your daughter would stand no chance of getting a car delivered in the same quarter that she orders it. I should think a minimum 6 month wait between order and delivery is likely and it could easily be longer. BMW’s are well worth waiting for but, of course, you have to be able to order one in the first place!

CapuchinI have it on relatively good authority that the BMW and Mini pull is due to the fact they aren’t confident they can ship before the new models come out for the X1 and Mini, and don’t want to be committed to providing the new models at this AP. Doesn’t explain why they pulled the 1 series though.
If this is accurate, they won’t return in Q2 I believe.

Interesting, because the new X1 isn’t due out until October so I would doubt that it would make it on to Motability until this time next year, if at all, which is a hell of a long time from when it was pulled!

IHDI ordered an X1 mid August and picked it up on Tuesday (8th Feb), so just under a 6month wait. I was also told they were pulled as probably not able to make any more before the model is due to finish.

I guess that they will stop production of the current X1 when the summer factory closure happens, as that’s when they generally re-tool for new models. If the current lead time is 6 months that would make sense. I’m not optimistic that the new model will appear on the Motability scheme though, but I hope that I’m wrong.
I hope that you enjoy your new X1. We are 6 months into ours and are very happy with it. It’s a huge improvement on the VW Tiguan that it replaced. Any questions, just ask.

IHDCheers Glos Guy.
Im happy with it so far. Ive had 2 Tiguans and a Volvo XC60 previously.
Only question im having just now is that Salesman say it has Android Auto, but i dont think it has, do you know?
thanks

ReneThe current X1 does not have Android Auto. The new one does. Basically all BMWs with a digital dash have Android Auto, the ones with analogue dash only have carplay.

I don’t use Android but I’ve never seen it, so the info that Rene has posted sounds correct. The next X1 isn’t being released until October, so specification is some way off being confirmed, but doubtless it will have the same setup as the latest 1 Series. If that has a digital dashboard and Android auto then doubtless the next X1 will as well.
Have to say that I’m not a huge fan of digital dashboards. I never changed the settings on our Tiguans digital dash and I had a Mercedes GLB for a week recently and the digital dashboard kept failing, leaving me with a black dashboard and no idea whatsoever as to how fast I was going!

If you get an iPhone, there are two ways to connect to the car via Apple CarPlay. Via the app by connecting the phone or via the direct menu item in the iDrive. Don’t ask me to explain why, but one way works much better than the other (from memory the iDrive)!

From this statement alone in bold, I would not trust the person telling you.
Anyone with long term knowledge of the scheme knows face lifts and new versions of cars generally carry a new “VTN” code, as such new APs are calculated.
Some may remember the issue when merc changed specification on their amg premium spec.
Or when ford did a mid year refresh.
