XWondering if anyone knows if I can park in an EV charging bay and charge my car without a time limit because I have a blue badge?

WigwamI can’t imagine why anyone would think that.

Do not think there is a simple answer, it will depend on the rules of the car park.

January 5, 2022 at 1:31 am #173320What kind of charger? At an MSA (100kW) or a destination charger (7kW)?
Always follow the rules of the car park to avoid any penalties I guess.

TimIt’s an interesting question. If it’s a council provided car park with some kind of EV facility then I’d imagine the same rules apply to dedicated bays as they do EV bays or otherwise if you’re displaying your badge and clock.
Private car parks probably don’t have the same crossover of disabled bay rules to EV bays, it’s likely one or the other, sadly.

JamesMost of us are going to have issues with ev charging bays because they have a tendency to be narrow and poorly thought out, we have some near us and there’s probably no more than 40cm between the cars.

JamesAlso some chargers have an overstay fee for example after 90 minutes it’s £10 which is automatically applied

XAh yes good point on the time limit overstay charge!
January 5, 2022 at 9:43 am #173335I must be missing something here. Coming back to the original question – why would anyone expect to be allowed to spend longer charging than anyone else because they are disabled? Would it improve their mobility?
January 5, 2022 at 9:56 am #173336Not a good idea to block the public EV charging points, even if you are disabled, plus you may be blocking another disabled user from charging, just my opinion.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

I think a destination charger (7kW) provider should consider removing any time limitations for blue badge users. The idea of having to get back to the car and then move it into a different space may not prove to be easy or realistic. And then there is the usual argument about how long it takes to do stuff when you are at your destination.
I agree with you at an MSA. Take what you need and jog on asap.

TimIf the time limit is 3 hours in a disabled bay then allowing 3 hours in an EV bay as a badge holder would make sense. Better yet, disabled bays with EV points, but then you might find longer wait times for those spaces due to disabled drivers taking advantage of the charging creating less use for other disabled folk … or even EV users who are able bodied parking in the disabled bays because of the EV points.
January 5, 2022 at 2:42 pm #173370The new Mc Arthur shopping centre in Cannock has 22 kWh charging bays 2 designated disabled charging bays @ £0.20 kWh

January 5, 2022 at 7:16 pm #173437Strange question imo as
One is a parking bay other is a charging bay simples
Chargers are in short supply so charge up and move the car the same as everybody else imo
