Audi A1 – Options Decision

      Hi all,

I recently ordered my next car, an Audi A1 S Line, which will be a nice change after 9 years of Fiesta’s, great though the Fiesta is.

There are many options on the A1, which hike the price up considerably. I’m trying to consider whether it’s worth adding the ‘Plus’ pack, which gives you rear privacy glass, a front centre armrest and dual zone climate control for £700.

I’d like the privacy glass, but I’m not too bothered about the armrest. The climate control I’m undecided on. Air conditioning comes as standard. In my current Fiesta I very rarely use the climate control to set an exact temperature. More often than not it’s just set to ‘low’ in the summer.  Also, I will have heated seats, which I’m used to and love, so I’m undecided whether climate control is really worth the extra outlay.

Does anybody have any experiences with Audi air conditioning and / or climate control? I did try the air conditioning in the car I test drove, but there wasn’t enough time for it to form much of an impression on me.

I wouldn’t have any car without an armrest but I wouldn’t pay an extra £700 to have an armrest either.

I too prefer privacy glass for no other reason than I think it looks nicer.

        I never use my aircon.

So it’d be a no from me but we’re all different and you just need to decide where your own priorities lie and make the right decision for you, your needs and budget.

If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

Have you thought about use tints ? for around £120 ish is a good option. However it has to be said that you would need to discuss with RSA as it is classed as a modification. RSA may agree provided it is done at the dealership.  This is not good news. The dealership will call in a window tinter to do the job, and you will foot the dealerships markup. So that £120 ish would inflate quite a lot.

It kind of makes me grind my teeth this.

Climate control just uses the same aircon system but you can choose a digital temperature, I have tested this on my car with climate and the other half’s smart with simple aircon and the one that managed to maintain the closest temp was the smart, within 1 degree over a 20 minute period, mine on the other hand ranged between 3 degrees too cold to 4 degrees too hot, it’s just another way the manufacturers have found of parting people from more of their cash, make it look better and give it a fancy name, doesn’t do anything different and sometimes it’s worse but punters are happy when bragging about the things on their new car!

Irrespective of which decision you make (and it all depends on how much you value the extras you are getting for your money), you appear to have ordered the car with the dealer, therefor it may be difficult ordering the car, if it is to be factory built, with the extra pack, without loosing your original order date.

You may be better, to ask your dealer how it would affect your already ordered car and if it would now affect the delivery date. If it has not been built at the factory yet, it may not make a difference, however if I were you I would check first, before I decided to get the extra pack.

Wow £700 for features that come standard on so many cars.

                Thats crazy money.

So basically it’s a bit of film on the back windows, about 60 quid extra cost to maunfacturer, an armrest, 40 quid tops and a whopping six hundred pounds for a couple of tiny led readout screens for the aircon(it’s not like they use a different pump or anything).

My opinion only but anyone willing to pay that amount of money is not playing with a full deck, on the other hand some audi seat covers they can buy for a bargain £1,000 ???

                    Thanks for the replies.

The privacy glass, armrest and climate control were all separate options originally, but my understanding is that for the current build year, Audi have changed this so that instead of being available separately, they have been grouped together as an option pack.

I have ordered the car, but have been told by the dealer I can add on the pack if I let him know by the end of the week.

However, I think I’m pretty much decided I’m going to leave it. If I was buying the car and keeping it for x years, I’d probably do it, but for a 3 year lease I don’t think it’s worth it.

The dealer has said that I can add after market privacy glass from a local company when the car is delivered for around £200, so I may do that.
